Absolutely brilliant amp worth every penny and more
Super Price. Heat. (edited)
With this -> Monitor Audio package (I bought around 10 years ago, for less than the current price apparently...) Will a superior amplifier enhance my experience? Audio tech is a minefield, I probably know more than 95% of people but feel like I know nothing. I expect I have what I need, with ARC on my TV and Dolby digital for a 5.1 setup. Sound seems great, no latency and sync issues, 4K HDR signal direct to television. I think the sound is lacking in power. My speakers are small and passive not active (if that's the term, powered by speaker cables?). It is loud, but the range is frustrating (action scenes too loud, dialogue quiet). I use Yamaha HS50M speakers for audio production and they are incredible, superior to my surround sound, a total different level of clarity.
I feel like I would get more out of my surround sound if I considered acoustics, proper positioning of speakers, and optimised EQ settings. But even that stuff, I struggle with. I always wonder if it's simply my AVR isn't providing enough power to the speakers, something basic.
I see conflicting guidance, and I see plenty of the dunning-Krueger effect in action where people speak confidently about audio tech then 3-4 others shut them down. (edited)
There is also an option to increase the volume of the speakers if I remember right so bass from my subwoofer did not increase, but sound dialogue did.
If its any consolation that amplifier died earlier in the year, after trying a few I Settled on the RX A2A, sound & the menus are identical to my old Yamaha (and no doubt yours) but in no way is a £450 odd improvement on the old amp.
Trial and error I've found with AVRs, most times I have stumbled across a setting I have liked just through messing.
It's most annoying as normally it switches to the ps5 and then turns it on meaning I then have to find the controller and turn it back off.
Hdmi controller is on for all the devices so I can't see a way to stop this other than turning it off on all connected devices which defeats the point somewhat. It's a little disappointing as my old onkyo never had this issue.
