Is the RAM upgradeable on this?

Which one is better for browsing and watching videos? This or the ASUS Vivobook 16X?
  2. JohnPaulGeorgeRingo's avatar
Possibly a daft question but will this come with full Acer warranty if bought through Amazon?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
    Yep.

Might need to register on the Acer site, but other than that no problems with the warranty. (edited)

Does this really have an RTX 2050 fitted? It says optional. As listed, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have this card as it says integrated only.

Either way, this is miles better than that Ryzen 7 IdeaPad 1 and about £100 less. Display on this is IPS as well. (edited)

Hi Plewis, thanks for the comment. I see now its optional and listed as having integrated gfx which is a shame. At least the option is there to upgrade I guess. I have amended the title now.

Yeah, it`s a better deal for sure and with the bonus of IPS as you mentioned and the backlit display looks a nice touch

    Touchscreen? Says optional?
    plewis00's avatar
    Not touchscreen.

Received - regarding upgradability - two SSD slots with a Western Digital SN530 NVMe 1TB in one.

Two SODIMM RAM slots - but both occupied by PC4-3200 4GB modules.

Hi, are you able to take out one of the 4gb? I’m thinking to to put 16gb
  6. djalc10's avatar
I received this laptop, it has a sticker saying FHD, no mention of IPS. How would I know if it’s FHD IPS? The viewing angles are average. Thanks

If you're looking at it from lets say 45 degrees to the left or right, if the picture looks washed out quite a bit it's TN, not IPS.
Vertically it will be even worse, so if you tilt the screen up and it gets very bad very quickly, again, it's TN. (edited)

    Just ought one.

Searched quickly for some reviews. This looks like a good deal to be honest for this price. Specially IPS screen - 1Tb SSD and the Aluminium Body are nice features.
Also eventough you find conflicting results if you search online, it is seems like the AMD is slightly better that its counterpart Intel cpu.

    Have fun.
    plewis00's avatar
It's alloy lid only, the rest of the system is an 'ok' plastic.

Thanks for your wise suggestion. Appreciated. I have only found a single russian youtube review about this model and he says it is IPS. It would be a pity for it to be TN since it was a good deal! wierdly the SSD is 1Tb in this model for some reason. (edited)

    Hi all. I currently have a lenovo : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-8130U CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz Ram 8gb

Is this a big improvement? My laptop is playing up and looking at options.

Id quite like to play some basic civilization/command and conquer type games i think.

Also, what is the "expert installation" for?

    Thanks in advance (edited)
    phishwak's avatar
I think it would be a significant improvement from your i3-8130U, especially in multi-threaded applications where it's 2 physical cores vs 6 on the Ryzen. Also the UHD 620 graphics are around half the power of the Vega 7. More than enough to play Civ and C&C type games. (edited)

I paid just that today for the Asus 16 inch deal from here. I've seen many acer laptops and I don't think I'd want to own one. Matter of experience maybe. This has much bigger drive.

And ryzen 5625u is nearly the same efficient as 5800h (edited)

So on first impressions, what do you think?
2 x 4G is kinda better than a single 8g huh, at least it’s running in dual channel.

My typical usage is 15-16GB RAM so my original plan was to add a 16GB to the 8GB I thought was going to be in one slot. Bought two 16GBs instead now mostly because I don't want to take the back off again - screws are fine, prizing open the plate after this with a plastic card was not. Pity, because the expandability of the laptop is a plus. Didn't investigate too deeply today but it appears to have a replaceable wireless/Bluetooth module (if anyone does that) and while the right-hand ports are attached to the motherboard the left-hand ones appear to be mounted on a separate card - might be one of the ways Acer differentiate the model by country (there seem to be a lot of variants). Probably not a consumer-level upgrade.

Keyboard feels surprising good for me, touchpad not - typical sticky hard plastic material rather than glass (to be expected on a cheap laptop). Didn't realise it had a fingerprint reader. Seems fast enough for now with 8GB (though not done much with it).

I have received it and yet not opened the box. The amazon says IPS display! on the box it say LCD LED Comfyview! Can anyone confirm the quality and the type of the display?

Is the display TN or IPS? If it is bad I dont even want to open it.
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
    LCD LED

If that's all it says it could be IPS, TN, or VA.
I've seen comments in other places saying they did get a TN panel.
Just open it and check, if it's TN (you'll know straight away as they viewing angles will be awful), you'll still have no problem returning it to Amazon because it wasn't as described.
