I know I will need one!!! I look every year, and every year I talk myself out of one, as it's a luxury not needed.. this is a brilliant price for a 10000 btu.. reviews are naff but I've yet to see one that gets 4or 5 stars across the board, those concerned read reviews for other models I think you will find a lot get a mix of good and bad.. this is small cheap and light... I'm so conflicted!!!!!

I've had one since 2010, my first Argos special lasted 10 years (£100), now onto a Vida unit. It is obnoxiously loud, but if you use it for 30 minutes before bed it's life changing. I normally end up waking up a few times on really hot nights and have to run it for 10 - 15 minutes each time, there's no way I could sleep with it on plus they aren't cheap to run. The feeling of smugness when people at work complain about not sleeping is worth it haha.

Please can someone recommend a good window kit for this and a good quality plug adapter for it with the right fuse?

I'd really rather not cut the cable to fit a 3 pin plug if it can be avoided as if something goes wrong with it, it's probably better if it is exactly as it came.

search B0C5VSQD14 in amzon that one has a fuse and ground

Hopefully at some point there will be enough of a market for good window units in the uk. Which are better in every way plus cheaper. £160 is a decent price but sounds like a major headache if there is some issue

The problem is that warm air comes out of the back of “any” unit like this, and the colder you set it the warmer it gets.
So where do you put the hose where the air is coming out from (?) Out of the window it will advise no doubt with their special fitting (an extra)

The only route for aircon is a Split System but a good deal more expensive of course..
    broke_with_expensivetaste's avatar
Just a pipe out the window and it's not expensive to get the kit. Room gets ice cold if used right
  14. thewolf8u's avatar
The WORST thing about any portable air con unit is the NOISE. Get yourself a few fans instead.
    broke_with_expensivetaste's avatar
I just leave the room closed and portable Aircon on the coldest for an hour or 2 max in the evening which cools the room down considerably. Never needed to leave it on whilst sleeping but even then just use a fan at that point since the room is cool enough (edited)

There are much cheaper ways to stay cool.

...like what? freezing a bottle of water and placing it in front of a fan.. wearing wet clothes :))
  17. Kookie91's avatar
Wow this is a very good deal for 10k BTU!
My only concern is the delivery, if it'll be damaged by the time it reaches to my home
    The_Guru's avatar
Also you won't know how loud it is until you try it. Unless your not using it in the bedroom

Reviews Aren't great :/ although for the money, worth a shot

Eu plug ?… gotta love an adaptor…
    mode_101's avatar
not sure why people find this so difficult...(or maybe it's an anti EU thing)... (edited)

    How to claim warranty?
  21. broke_with_expensivetaste's avatar
Returning to Amazon EU has been a pain in the neck post Brexit plus Amazon only refund up to £10 for postage
    may1216's avatar

Yes, it is a pain post brexit, but I have claimed return postage in excess of £30 last year. £10 limit, is that a very recent change?
  22. aymrez's avatar
Has anyone used a portable air con as a dehumidifier? Where does the water go? Is it efficient?
    plunet's avatar
It drains into a tank at the bottom of the unit that you have to empty. Many have the option of a drain hose.

I'm totally new to aircons and this will be the first one I've ever owned (if they honour it). Is there any good guide to hooking it up for first time use. It's the positioning of the hose I'm most wondering about and specifically how much length of hose comes with it and if that can be extended for high windows?

It's just our windows (standard outward door like opening 'Casement' style) are at the top of the window and I'm not sure whether these aircon come with the right attachments for this or even have a long enough hose to reach?

If not is there an aftermarket kit I can get for it please?
    c135's avatar
there are kits on amazon or screwfix search for Window seal for Air Conditioner

regarding the hose it's extensible but advisable to have the shortest possible length as it is a source of heat.
I am planning to have mine sit on a drawer near the window

lokks like they are sending it from France ... expected Friday with UPS
  29. ThereHeIs's avatar
UPS says its in the UK and coming tomorrow from france (ordered on spanish amazon). Worth a punt for £157
  30. c135's avatar
not very impressed with the build quality definitely not worth the £400+ original price
the dust filter is flimsy plastic that leaves a gap at the end, the hose connector is leaking hot air as its about 1/2 cm bigger diameter, the evaporator had some rust dots already. the window kit had adjustment holes only on one side.. no drain hose and you need to tilt it back to get all the water out (got about 150ml water after 4 hours on).
the manual does not even mention that you can adjust the air flow, no auto swing
for £157 its OK I guess but not quite the bargain if compared to the Lidl one even if its only 7000BTU
  31. HS77's avatar
Any recommendations for Air Conditioner Hose compatible?
  32. ST3123's avatar
I find the mains lead not quite long enough to site it where I would like. Unfortunately the only extensions I have are the multi socket surge protector ones they say not to use with high draw equipment like this. Would it be ok if I used the extension but didn't connect anything else so it's only the AC on the multi socket extension?
  33. ST3123's avatar
Managed to try it today. Utter disappointment! We have a fan in the room that seems to do more. Had it on well over an hour, tried dehumidifier and regular 'cool' modes on high and low settings and it barely seemed to make a difference at all, maybe the dehumidifier was ever so slightly more effective but little difference either way.

It seems to technically work in that it turns on and certainly makes enough noise to suggest something is happening, just doesn't feel like it. Before we put it on our room was a baking 27C and an hour later with the AC on dehumidify and cool to 18C the room was exactly the same

This is my first AC, maybe I am making a beginner error?

Is it better to close the door to the room with the AC in to close it off from the rest of the house? Should the windows (except the one needed for the pipe) be closed too?

Does it make any difference how you face the AC? Should the grilles at the front face into the room?

Is positioning of the AC unit itself make a difference? Unfortunately the hose doesn't really let me move the AC about very much... (edited)
