This is an excellent price, 16GB RAM is fixed on these but hardly ever see them with 16 only 8. It’s a pretty solid ultraportable and I’m sure this spec used to be over £700. CPU is excellent for the money.

    Used to be £900!

No one has paid attention to the most important aspect, which is something we will look at all the time - the screen. It's great at this price, with 300 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB. I would give two pluses, but I can't

Arguably the most important aspect is 16GB fixed RAM - but it just happens it also has a good CPU, solid metal chassis all-round, good display (but they almost are all FHD IPS at this price), etc. as a package, it’s very good.

Is there a big difference between DDR4 and DDR5 Ram
    plewis00's avatar
No, for most users. 5000 series is DDR4 anyway, this is fine.

Im looking at this.... not sure which one to go for..............
    ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 M3500QA 15.6" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, 512 GB SSD, Silver £489 currys
    sheffield788's avatar
That's a good deal, with a better CPU and a better screen. But you have yo think what you want from your laptop. The Vivobook has a larger screen, it is bulkier and heavier. It is also plastic. This one is an uktrabook. More compact, lightweight, slim, etc. I pay extra for the form factor and built quality and I compromise on specs in favour of other aspects. Saying this, in terms of built quality, Swift 3 is quite basic in comparison with other ultrabooks. But this is a very good deal.

Seriously considering dipping in and buying this. Is there any similar laptops or better around the same price range ? If anyone can advise......
    sheffield788's avatar
If the form factor or built quality are important to you, have a look on HUKD at Zenbook deals, as they are more or less the same in this respect, even I do believe the Zenbook is better. As with regards to the specs, at this moment of time I don't think there is anything such good value that combines the specs with a good form factor. If the ultrabook aspect is not important to you, maybe you can find something else. But to me, I don't think you'll have better specs in such a form factor at a lower price. (edited)

solid price, solid spec, solid build quality. This is a vast improvement from Acer laptops over 10 years ago. You wont go wrong or overpay for this.

Review of lower spec model below: tomsguide.com/rev…t-3
    - link now works again

The display on this laptop is significantly better than in the review (edited)

Unless Acer improved Swift 3 build quality over the past 3 years, I would not call this solid build. I would call it compact, lightweight, but the one I had was a bit flimsy in comparison with other ultrabooks I've touched. There is a chance they improved this, as aluminium chasis is mentioned, also 1.25 kg in weight, while mine was only 950g and had lots of plastic.
However, this is a very good deal, IMO.
The link you provided does not work.

i am confused bw this Acer Swift 3 14"and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i 14 (which i had ordered few weeks back, got delivered last week, yet to open, so can return)

Keeping aside price, Any suggestions which one is a better machine overall in terms of build, processing power and screen quality? Thanks (edited)
    tdk2bu's avatar
    Depends on your use.

For me for £100 more the Acer wins hands down.

The Acer screen will most likely be 72%ntsc which is 100% srgb - however check that. The Lenovo screen is advertised at 45% NTSC unless you upgraded to the better screen when buying.

The resolution on the Lenovo is better and even at 14 inch I think that does matter however if it's a 45% NTSC screen, then I'd take the lower resolution Acer.

The Acer will have a much better battery life because the CPU is designed for that. The Intel H range are usually power hungry.

The Acer will look and feel more premium.

Voted hot! Again, one of these moments when I'm sorry I don't need a new laptop, and I can't justify a purchase.
The specs are good, the screen is good and equally important to me, this is an ultrabook. Lightweight, compact, slim. It is an entry level in terms of built quality, a bit flimsy in comparison with other ultrabooks, I much prefer Swift 5, but I hardly see a Swift 5 on sale.
Voted hot, very good deal. (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
Never seen a Swift 5 on sale but the 3 is pretty good. I had a Swift X which is higher tier but also quite solid. I’d say this is close to a low-tier Zenbook for build but slightly below an Envy and way below an XPS or MacBook.
  10. ah0936's avatar
Even though this is an older processor, is it still good for the money?
    plewis00's avatar
    Yes - it’s a very good CPU, 8-core and Zen 3.

I ordered dell one last week and received it today and found this deal today.....should I return the dell ? (edited)

Personally I would go for the Swift as it's made of metal as opposed to plastic & has a slightly better display. Other specifications are all very similar.

Does it charge through usb C ?

Not sure if to buy this or zenbook 14 Oled for £639 at ao.com - slightly slower CPU but much better screen 🤷
    Cookie_monster_21's avatar
    This does charge through USB-C.

Ordered to replace my 3 year old Dell 14 5405. The SSD is double the size of my current one.

Very handy hearing people's opinion on this. I'm the 'tech guy' of the family and so I always get my sister asking me to find laptops she can get my nieces and I've just got this one for her.

She's starting uni in September so should be fine for that

Ordered one for my son and collected it today. So impressed with it thanks OP. Only bloat software was Norton which was easily removed. Wife saw it liked it so much bought her one too. Well built, well spec laptop for the money.

It was good I would say. I bought it as a gift. You can buy it in Argos now if you like. Double check if it is the same
