Will it work as a backup modem for automatic Internet failover?.

I work from home and need reliable Internet thinking of getting this and a cheap 12m sim only deal for guaranteed Internet.

yes. it has two ports, one is WAN / LAN2 so you can plug a broadband connection into it and it can be a backup for your main internet. I haven't actually tried this but I know it works as there's people on ISPReview forums doing this. I use my own router (OPNsense) which load balances two 5G routers together since I work at home too and need reliable internet.

    Is it locked to 3?

unlocked. I've tried O2/Three/Lyca(EE) and all worked in it.

Great deal - I've had one of these for two and a half years now which I've used for my broadband and can confirm it's stood the test of time - I paid about £300 new and it has been great.

If you live in an area with good 5G signal I wouldn't think twice - especially if you can get a cheap Three data SIM on one of the cashback deals that are advertised on here every so often - I've been getting 400mbps internet for ~£7 a month! (edited)

does the three phone sim deals work the same as their broadband sims? I thought they'd limit speeds if there are too many connections like how some companies did with blocking hotspot (if I'm wrong then is the only difference with three broadband that they include a router?)

Know this maybe isn’t the place to ask. I’m after a 5G router for an EE SIM card. I don’t get 5G indoors so have an antenna. Are there any decent priced 5G routers out there that have the antenna ports on the back to screw it into? Best I can find is £400+.
I’m currently on a 4G setup but want to upgrade. Cheers

Huawei CPE Pro 1 has two antenna ports, but it doesn't do 3CA (carrier aggregation) which means it isn't as fast as the Pro 2. Do you have a loft you can access / put the modem into ? I have mine in there and I also live in an area that says no 5G indoors only outdoors, works fine. The only decent modem I know of that has external antenna support and has all the bells and whistles is the Mikrotik Chateau 5G and it's hideously expensive IMHO.

You could also buy a modem and modify it / have it modified for you there's a place called Router Mods that does it in the UK.

can you use any mobile sim with this without them imposing any restrictions? would for example three throttle speeds if its not as a broadband deal?
    deleted2919055's avatar

three don't throttle anything at all. Yes you can use any mobile sim.

I have got cpe pro 1. Is it worth the upgrade.

as long as you don't need the antenna ports yeah, it's faster by carrier aggregating different bands together. if it were me, personally, i'd sell the pro 1 and use the money towards a pro 2.

I wish these dropped below £100.

Would you expect these to have better or worse performance than a 5G pixel phone? If the phone is showing 100 down and 30 up in a speed test, would the router likley be better, worse or the same?

So this is what happens to all the units that get sent back after the 2 year contract.

It used to be good for the first six months, however it's been so bad ever since for me and you have no rights to just cancel :/ So I'm never getting locked into a contract again, first time I made that mistake, never again.
    aLV426's avatar
Of course you have rights to cancel - I guess what you mean is cancelling without penalty...

is it better to get one of these or a cheap refurbished 5g phone for home broadband with a smarty or Vodafone 5g sim..?
    deleted2919055's avatar

better to get one of these. In my opinion.

Trying to decide if this would be worthwhile for caravan or whether to go 4g with antenna options. Has anyone used this for a caravan?
