Drinks package is quite cheap too at only £18.50 a night if you'd wanted it, that also includes other perks like speciality dining and limited Wifi. There is the optional service charge of £15.50 a day, although you can choose to opt out via guest services, either way, still much cheaper than other cruise companies such as princess who'd charge £50 instead of £34 here.

Price Breakdown:
Full Board Cruise - £42.50 a night w/o optional tips
Full Board Cruise - £58 a night w/ optional tips
All Inclusive Cruise - £60.70 a night w/o optional tips
All Inclusive Cruise - £75.20 a night w/ optional tips.

Pretty crazy cheap prices given it's solo.

Hope it helps someone

Gratuities/tips aren't really optional like you say. They're automatically charged to your onboard account and can only really be removed if you have a specific service issue. They get distributed between all staff, including ones you won't have had a direct interaction with, like chefs etc
    yozzman1234's avatar
You have the option to remove gratuities on nearly all cruise lines and opt to tip yourself if you want to . Just go to reception on embarkation. It's very simple . They are not allowed by Law to charge you gratuities if you don't want them . NCL is hugely an American liner and most Yanks leave them on . But in Europe most customers ask them to be removed. All you say is your not happy with the Service that's it .

Without taking the excursion, can I get off the ship to visit on my own? Obviously, the excursion will be extra cost and I am trying to save money, and don't think same day excursion worth the price. This is a genuine ask
    sm9690's avatar
Yes you can do you own thing, just be very mindful to be back onboard by the time stated in the daily planner as the ship will not wait for you and you're then left to make your own way to the next port/get home.

    Tyz2k:

I can verify this as I was just on an NCL cruise and a service charge of $20 per person per day was charged to our onboard account. Was not happy

easily removed at guest service towards the end of the cruise......I can verify that 100%.

Its all very clear in the booking that a daily service charge is applied.

Never been on a cruise and I have felt a bit sea sick on the "smooth" ferries to France, not the old ones, are these really any different? This is such a good price.

Many just take the pills use bands and get on with it.

Pick a shorter one if still a bit worried 7n with plenty of ports is a good starter trip.

Many have worked through their motion sickness and no longer get it after a rough one.

All that for 1 day in Iceland?
    Rmcstar's avatar

No, all that for the chance to visit 7 countries and to have a great time on board where there's literally countless things to do.

Free at sea to get the drinks WiFi(minutes) meal shorex is £299pp on a 16n.

Wait for the next 50% offer.

Agreed, good advice. Does seem that iglu have a very slight discount on it though, at £287, but best to wait for £149 if it comes up it the next 2 weeks.

Cost me more than that for 4 nights in Greece! What a great deal. If the dates were different, I’d be all over that
    PetrolHeadRR's avatar
That's probably because you have a nice beach and great weather while here you are on a boat.

Don't be fooled by the free at sea myth. You pay a fee for "free at sea". Then you pay a 20% service charge on every "free drink" that you order and a 20% service charge for "free" specially dining. It's a bit of a con if you ask me...
    getmore4less's avatar
    No you don't.

once you have paid the free at sea no more to pay on board

For UK bookings it is a fixed charge based on length of cruise.

Free at Sea upcharge amounts are per person based on sail lengths:

Sail Length FAS Upcharge GBP Per Person
    3-5 Nights£99
    6-8 Nights£149
    9-11 Nights£199
    12-14 Nights£249
    15-17 Nights£299
    18+ Nights£349

That includes the drinks and 1-3 speciality dinners depending on length and cabin

So if traveling with my mother would I book one room for her and book another for myself separately? Is there a way to get the cabins close together?
    getmore4less's avatar
Some grades you can pick cabins.
You can check on line some agents are easier than others, I check using vivavoyage.

Or you can get a phone agent to help.

Some book a balcony with inside opposite if they can find one cheaper than 2 balconies.

Edit: checked only the GTY options are cheap it going to be pot luck where they are. (edited)

Really tempted by this. Would like the free at sea package too. I read that they often do 50% off the package, anyone know whether this is likely to happen soon?
    getmore4less's avatar
Thought I replied, not seeing it.

Next refresh should be Tues and then maybe Thurs/Friday.

Who knows what they might change from the failry standard 35%, Free at sea get all and air credit that has has been around all year.
They have added the 50% or $200 OBC on top for some some short periods.

I think quite a few regulars have discount vouchers that expire Thurs so they might wait to add more incentives.

Thankyou just booked, great price. Would urge everyone NOT to remove tips, the staff work very hard and long hours, for very poor wages.

I wonder what’s the point of spending your holiday mostly on a ship?

I have the same thoughts on beaches. It’s what makes us all different

Congratulations on obtaining a super deal. My booking was more expensive but it included half-price 'Free at Sea' deal, so works out the same. Amazing price for the itinerary. Normally travel as a couple (M/F) but partner can't get away. Enjoy my own company and a few pints! Tours are quite expensive however I will go on a couple with the Free at Sea discount. Have been to most of these ports before. Looking forward to overnight in Reykjavik and trips in home country of Ireland.

Really not my problem how the cruise lines pay their staff(don't worry they get paid pretty good, just not western wages, enough to support a family pay for education and buy property back home)

It's the cruise total cost that matters, add it up and make your decision.

When it's cheaper than UK land based hotel and meals it's great value.
  15. gerrykiddy's avatar
It all seems so disproportinate. You pay £40 a night and 37% tips. It is great value but I can see people deciding at the end of the journey to opt out.
    redromski's avatar
The service charge is a set daily price pp. Doesnt matter if you pay 10k or £500 for the cruise. You cant really look at % wise.
  16. fazzy-bhoy's avatar
would take me an hour to drive to Newhaven. Shame the cruise starts in Southampton!
    getmore4less's avatar
Newhaven(Edi) is a tender port they cannot do embarkation there.

It's £687 on iglu cruise fyi

When does your passport get stamped with a tour like this?
    getmore4less's avatar
Done 5 ex Southampton in the last 12months 4 included Schengen, 1 was ROI, no stamps for any of them.

Very tempted to book this for my first solo holiday - any recommendations for parking? Most of the main sites i've looked at have no availability and some of the meet & greet ones seem sketchy

Would I be OK using one of the council car parks listed here or better off booking a NCP?
    getmore4less's avatar
We have used west quay multi £5 day our backup if we don't find a better option.

    Yourparkingspace has loads of parking
Some are very cheap and on bus routes to port area.

Also look at hotels with parking.

Ibis/Novotel are walking to horizon terminal.
  20. Mutton_Man's avatar
Can this be bought now and add free at sea later or do you have to add it at the same time as booking this?
    getmore4less's avatar
    Not sure never tried.

I use a NCL consultant they can make changes to bookings without the admin fees.
