Mai Thai "AAA" Fragrant Jasmine Rice (5kg) - Soft, Sticky texture
Description Jasmine Fragrant Rice has proven so popular with Restaurants and Caterers. Made from AAA Quality Thai Fragrant Jasmine Rice, scented rice is a worldwide favourite. It's not only great flavour, but great value too! Jasmine rice is originally from Thailand and is commonly used in Southeast Asian cooking. This is a long grain variety of rice that has a subtle floral aroma and a soft, sticky texture when cooked. The grains are also shorter and thicker than basmati rice.

Same here, we stock up on this when it’s this price.

    Not Jasmine Rice
This is not Jasmine rice. It's long grain rice. Save your money and avoid it. Sainsbury's needs to take this up with the supplier as I can see from previous reviews that this has been going on since 2019. Plus the country of origin is marked as Asia instead of a specific country.

Looks like a good price but interesting reviews on the Sainsbury's website (following the link) with a couple of people suggesting it was slightly fluffier long grain rice rather than Thai jasmine rice. Wonder if anyone here has experienced similar? (edited)

It's not from Thailand. Otherwise they'd mention it, instead it's written on "country of origin: Asia". That could mean it's from China as far I'd guess.

Agree with above, this does not cook or smell like Jasmine rice. I cook alot for my family and tried this recently, was not impressed.

Bit of a scam they are claiming its's "Nectar" price when it has been the same and cheaper there and elsewhere without nectar

Poor quality rice. Bought it a few weeks ago. Turns out more like sticky rice.

What's the RRP on this? I saw it in Lidl the other day (wednesday) but I didn't have my car with me with and they was sold out by the Saturday when I normally do my weekly shop...

How does this compare to Tilda basmati??
    The_narrow_path's avatar
Different types of rice. Basmati caters to indian cuisine, whilst this is sticky rice (totally different grains). Basmati grain maintains its integrity after cooking whilst jasmime rice becomes softer and clums together (very similar to sushi rice).

Avoid this rice. Buy Peacock brand at Costco you will see the difference

My wife is Filipino and this is the rice we purchase. All our Filipino friends buy this and all said it is really nice rice. As the Filipino saying goes 'rice is life'

Been on meat only for 3 months, it’s been great and had lots of benefits for me personally. However brining some rice and bread back in. However I’m going to eat less of it so I thought I want to eat the best or tastiest. What’s the best rice for say floral flavour, Indian flavour and just plain so I can add spices, herbs myself? So much corporate lies food just winds me up lately. Rather listen to real people with real advice.

Got some of this in lidl for same price. Didn't seen especially fragrant. Not great quality either. Went from hard to mush with no firm phase. I stopped cooking as it was turning mushy but some grains were still hard. I would spend more in future on better quality rice.
