Used this service twice and it worked well, particularly like the fact they bring the label as I don't (won't) own a printer

The thread title is all wrong. It should reference how you now have to pay MORE to take it to the post office yourself.

    Booked a collection.
Just my luck that my normal postie was off for a few days (great person and excellent service from him)
The doorbell showed postie delivering a letter and leaving and then a few mins later I get an email saying he called and no one was home.
He did this 2 days in a row.
When my normal postie returned on 3rd day and I happened to see him on CCTV he gladly accepted the packet even though it wasn't on his system and it took him a while to work out how to do it ad-hoc with his supervisor on the phone explaining how to do it.

Tdlr: It's a good service when all the cogs in the system run smoothly but it's frustrating when you have a lazy cog in the works. (edited)

I have to say this service is excellent, I have gone on an eBay selling spree and always use the collection option, each time it's been collected next day and delivered on time. Which is highly unusual as I only tend to get 1-2 deliveries a week, apparently RM prioritise tracked services over normal post. Much better than Evri and the rest.

Used this three times. Today they collected a bog standard first class letter. It's great for me as due to illness I can't easily get to a post office or even post box. He brought the postage label as well. When I was last at the post office a few weeks back, they were queuing to the door.

Everyone's mileage may vary but in all honesty, Youre better off booking a different courier via parceltogo or the courier directly (if they do collections) if you REALLY REALLY need a collection service as taking your parcel(s) down to a post office or Courier Service Point isnt possible.

Ive booked a few collections through R.M quite a few times because some businesses demanded I go via R.M. Booked a collection online and R.M never turn up during the specified date/time period.

I can understand if they are running late, sometimes its unavoidable. That doesnt bother me at all. But ive had collections booked and not collected until 2-3 days after the specified date and once even over a week later and by that time ive already made a few calls/emails to R.M and they promised multiple times to send another driver/van to collect and they never turn up either so I went ahead and booked another courier instead. Someone from R.M did turn up eventually but the package had already been collected by either DHL, Fed-Ex or UPS (I forget which service i used) earlier in the week.

A lot of couriers have a bad rep for losing packages and occasionally crushing things but at least if youve booked a collection, they *WILL* turn up.

Soon you will have no choice but to send only this way. They will see no need for post office, more closures, maybe have one open in each postcode. They are just getting everyone on there slowly. Then once everyone's on there, price plans.

Good! My postie is friendly and always punctual and never any complaints no matter what the weather whilst standing at the door sticking labels he has bought with him on to my items.

My post office on the other hand is staffed by a militia of miserable, angry, rude and all round lazy women who treat you with contempt and look at you like you have just walked into their home. Everything from foreign currency to buying a stamp is too much effort for them with scoffs and tuts whilst they do it. You leave feeling like everything is your fault yet you’re not quite sure why.

In my experience, they failed to turn up about a third of the time.
Whereas with ParcelForce, I don't recall them ever not turning up and this was with 100+ collections.

We use the service multiple times a week for the past two years and it has been flawless.

I know most post offices are BAD! But our local one is FANTASTIC.

If you want to suport your local PO, DONT use this.

Royal mail are seperate from PO. This is their way of cutting the PO out of it. And taking all the profit.

Royal Mail - big horrible corporate machine
Post office - Sometimes shocking, sometimes run by lovely local people.
    Bob_Ross_The_Boss's avatar
PO are more expensive and you actually need to go out your way to go there spending more money on fuel...

    No thanks

My local postman hates this service as he walks with a trolly and then gets a big package and has to make a long journey to drop it off. He keeps saying "it says it is postable" and then it's like a 10ft box lol. So then he has to get something in a van to come pick it up later, the guy in the van has to take a picture of the label where the postman scans it lol. Their system is a complete mess, so I stopped using it.

I always love it when an employee grumbles about their lot, it's so professional & not at all awkward. You had a lot of these characters back in the day of nationalised services when bus drivers would say 'it's nothing to do with me I just work for the company' when they were an hour late.

Personally my postman is great at collecting parcels on time. I once asked him if he gets fed up of doing it and he said he doesn’t mind. I’m not looking forward to when they eventually start charging for the service though.

in 2021 it was 72p for a parcel collection and 60p for a return and occasionally 30p at a promotion. I feel posties are fine with it until the Christmas rush begins.

Great service but incredibly poor implementation. Booking the collection seperate to the parcel just makes it so easy to mess up. (edited)

And always check that you have ticked and confirmed if a label is required, double check before proceeding

Looks like it’s naffed out trying to book a collection and it says: “
Sorry, this item is not eligible for collection”

    DOPE…

Imagine having to stay in all day to get a parcel picked up when you could drop it off at a P.O and have the day to yourself.

I get all mine picked up at work, saves me having to waste time going to a Post Office...

Response to the above in case anyone else is stumped like I was...

The app isn't currently allowing collections to be booked. Looks like they're in the middle of a rejig.

But this is still available to book online when you login:
