Computer - Should I sell or upgrade?

Hi everyone.

I built a computer in 2014 and have been using the same desktop since then - the only thing that was upgraded was probably the RAM and my PSU as the previous one stopped working.

The components are quite outdated and I would like some opinions on whether I should sell this computer and buy/build a new one from scratch or simply upgrade the current setup.

I would really appreciate if you could also specify some of the builds or components I could potentially get.

Specifications:

Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
CPU: AMD FX-6300
HDD: HDD 1TB WDC WD10EZEX
GPU: AMD Radeon XFX R9 200 Series 2048MB
RAM: 16GB

What are you trying to achieve? What is your use case?

Even an old pc like that will fly for basic tasks if you put an SSD in it and install a fresh copy of windows.

However, if you are looking to play modern games etc then you need to start fresh as your motherboard won't allow a decent cpu, or modern ram (it is ddr3 and we are now on ddr5) etc etc.

Cheaper to start afresh but don't discount a used bargain.

I have not been playing lately, but I want the machine to be able to run games such as CS:GO or FIFA smoothly.

Looks like the motherboard will allow SSD (I've known them not to)
You can get 1TB for just over £100 on this site but I'm sure you can do better than that.
There's also a guide on how to fit, which, of course you may not need.

Just upgrading with an SSD will do the trick if you have no plan to change how you are using it currently.

Upgrade to SSD would good enough for general use like web browsing, watching youtube.

How much RAM have you got?
You may well get some used RAM, they are so cheap. (edited)

Yep, any ssd really. Your board isn't going to make full use of the highest speeds I suspect.
