The biopsy sample would be taken by a doctor (or highly trained nurse)
The sample would be sent to the histopathology department to be analysed
The histo-pathology department will produce a report which is sent to the doctor in charge of your care. (This would usually be your consultant)
It can take time to process the biopsy so results can take several weeks.
This answers your question.
My question to you is - why are you asking this question?
- have you had a biopsy and want to ring up to know your results?
The information in a biopsy report can be confusing to non-medically trained people. Also, the results of the biopsy will usually determine what further medical care/treatment you may need.
In many cases, the sensible way forward would be to ring the consultant's secretary and ask when the results are likely to be available. Ask the secretary to book a clinic appointment for you where you would see the consultant (or a doctor from their team) to discuss the results."}],"commentCount":6,"interactionStatistic":1,"articleSection":"Ask"}
