Can I put old and new sim in phone during porting process

I'm in the process of changing from BT to EE for my mobile phone. I have the new EE sim and swapped it over yesterday. My old number still hasn't ported over and when I rang BT they said it would happen overnight tonight. I have a dual sim phone so I'm wondering if I can put both sims in the phone or will it confuse the porting process?
I did try asking BT but they didn't seem to be able to grasp the concept of a dual sim phone
Thanks

Every port I have ever done has been with the sim in the phone & I mostly change providers every 2 years or less.

This is the best way to do it.

I've not done it on a dual sim phone (and that's strange as I have one!) but I have done it across two different phones.

    No problem here either.

You may find that you lose signal on both sims tho and may need to put airopolane mode on and the off again to get it to refresh.

Thank you, the aeroplane mode on/off is a handy tip 😁
