My top tips on simple ways to save money on your Christmas Food Shop

Make a Detailed Shopping List:

It sounds basic, but drafting a comprehensive list for your holiday meals can immensely help you plan and prevent buying excess. Estimate the number of guests and categorize your list into frozen, pantry items, and fresh produce. This way, you can grab frozen items when they're on sale and ensure that perishables are bought closer to the holiday.
Shop Ahead and Regularly:

With the hustle and bustle of the festive season, many procrastinate their grocery shopping. To save money, gather non-perishable items in the months leading to December. Popular items might be pricier or even sold out as December approaches.

Steer Clear of Convenience Stores:

They might be great for grabbing a carton of milk or bread, but their prices are generally higher. Plus, their selection isn't as diverse as larger supermarkets.

Opt for Budget-friendly Alternatives:

While we all aim for lavish feasts during the holidays, choosing more economical brands over premium ones can lead to substantial savings. Switching to cost-effective alternatives doesn’t mean compromising on taste. Sometimes, simpler is better!

Compare Prices Across Stores:

Don’t shop at the last moment. By starting early, you can compare prices across stores. Trolley.co.uk is a great website for comparing Groceries

Choose Fresh, where possibile, Over Packaged:

For staples like potatoes, carrots, and brussels sprouts, fresh options often last longer and are less expensive than their packaged counterparts. Moreover, many supermarkets reduce the prices of these items during the festive season, which is a win for shoppers.

Loyalty Schemes:

Supermarket Loyalty Schemes can be super helpful with getting more 'bang for your buck'

e.g Load £100 on your bonus card by 3rd Nov and receive extra £15 Christmas Bonus

You can find a full list of these schemes here - Full list of Supermarket Christmas saving Schemes and Cards 2023 and many have cut off dates to get your bonus, so make sure you maximise your savings as much as possible.

What's the cheapest Supermarket?

The latest research by Which? has determined that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for August 2023, making it the 15th month in a row. Lidl was runner-up, once again.

Discount codes:

Usually there's discount codes for 'new customers' or you may even spot one open to new and existing customers, floating around, either on hotukdeals or via a quick web search.

e.g at time of posting £6 off £25 Click and Collect w/ discount code - ALL customers
