5 Benefits of the Echo Flex Over Other Echo Products
maketecheasier.com/sma…ex/

Where can I use Amazon Echo Flex?
You might wonder why you’d buy a smart device like Flex if it’s not meant for music listening. There are a few situations where Flex can be helpful:
  • Add it where you need smart home connectivity, but you don’t have furniture, a shelf or counter space available
  • Place it in the basement to ask Alexa to turn lights on or off as you head down
  • Use it in the laundry room when your hands are full
  • Plug it in the kitchen to set recipe timers or to add food to your grocery list
  • Use it in the garage to get Alexa to turn the lights on in the house as you’re heading inside
  • Try it in a high traffic hallway or near the door to call out for all the lights to be turned on or off as you enter or leave
  • Place it somewhere you don’t want wires trailing to your Echo speaker or Dot, like a workshop, bathroom, or small kitchen
  • Broadcast announcements like calling out dinner’s ready without screaming all over the house, or drop in using Amazon’s Drop In intercom feature which turns Echo devices into speakerphone-radios

Definitely a great deal at £4.99 , never been lower hotukdeals.com/sea…lex

Previous best likely £5.99 way back in July 2022 hotukdeals.com/dea…490

Sometimes is bundled with other stuff, like a smart plug (£8.99 Aug2022) hotukdeals.com/dea…544

Wonder if a Gen 2 is on the way & they're trying to get rid of this? Or, probably just overstock as it's not selling that well & is from 2019. (edited)

My thought immediately went to a stock clearance for a Gen 2. If they can do Gen 2 with the ability to have a plug on the front and power controlled by Alexa this would be an amazing product.
  2. IRONM4N_UK's avatar
It works as a 1.5A charger too
Worth the money just for that
    IRONM4N_UK's avatar
£4.99 for a 1.5A power supply is pretty decent then you have the smart features on top
  3. martinelsen's avatar
what are the features and benefits of this little device?
    decosparkle25's avatar
Basically it's an alexa if you don't need the speaker. It can still play music etc but it's not great as a speaker, which is what Dots etc are designed for. It also plugs directly into the socket rather than being a separate device with cable.

These will connect to a Bluetooth speaker.

I have mine plugged in outside shower room. Automatically connects to a waterproof Bluetooth speaker in my shower when it is switched on. Great for music, radio, audiobooks in the shower.

My daughter's have one each in their bedrooms just for listening to audiobooks. (edited)

Good point. They turn any speaker(s) into one with Bluetooth, used it in the past to connect (via Bluetooth) to my Fire stick too.

After reading all the comments I still don't know what it does. I'll guess I'll find out when it's delivered
    zombrex's avatar
instead of screaming downstairs , Alexa skip song. you can do it more quietly having one of these plugged in upstairs...
  6. dblake's avatar
Cheap way of getting an elderly relative up and running on Alexa (assuming they have WiFi of course) for piece of mind. Alexa devices in key rooms which can hear them if they need help... Alexa call 'contact'. (Could have a contact called help with primary telephone number). Father in law up and running and enjoying Alexa on his echo show for video calls, medication reminders and music... These are in his bedroom and hall just in case.

I am not sure what is the feature of this tiny box but I ordered, thanks OP.

I use it to play music to my otherwise non-wifi enabled speakers. I could play music directly to my speakers from my phone via Bluetooth but a wifi connection to the echo flex which is connected to the speakers vis rca cable provides a much sturdier connection, and I can control it with my voice.
  9. Noveed's avatar
Have a few of these set up as my Eufy Doorbell chimes! Really good!
  10. FunsizeR's avatar
Cheap internet radio for the garage thanks

Also an idea - if you have a three pin plug and internet hotspot in your car - Alexa enabled in the car? Just an idea
    JuD_'s avatar
You can get a Alexa echo auto it’s more expensive but surely better then having a tinny little speaker in your car.
  11. stakeholder's avatar
The speaker on this is not good.

Will this link to a blink doorbell? I know the echo dots do, thanks
    stealth666's avatar
    Should do, links to ring
  13. jouster's avatar
Order two at this price. Like you say great as extra chimes but also in places where I don’t need a speaker but just a gadget to pick up commands
  14. SmartBhavesh's avatar
Isn’t this often at 5£? And worth 5 only ?
    Somersett's avatar
It has just started hitting this price point on a semi-regular basis. Amazon wants more home spying, for Five Eyes, so this is heavily subsidised. And for peeps aware of the Five Eyes downside, this device is the cheapest way to add an Internet connection/wireless functionality to USB powered speakers.
  15. tommybuges's avatar
This has a usb too so good for charging phone
  16. Feargal's avatar
I think this £5 unit is only semi useful if you have ring devices in your home. Seems to be a marketed solution for no apparent problem.

Can i play a podcast on this? Not bothered about how good the speakers are too much. Just need it to be loud and decent sounding.
    sjmleicester's avatar
The speaker on these is reviewed as being poor. Not sure what you were expecting for £5.
  18. Dusty's avatar
Don't suppose anyone know if the speakers loud enough for an alarm?
    rev6's avatar
    Yes
  19. Blasphemous's avatar
Can you arm and disarm the Ring Alarm with this? I can find how to do it with the app but can't see anything for voice commands i.e. Arm/Disarm
    Blasphemous's avatar
To answer my own question, it is possible, LifeHackster provides a guide to this question with some other tips at the link below. So I bought two. Thank you for the post

hi, can this be used to convert old hi fi / amplifier bluetooth enabled
want something equivalent to chromecast audio
    rev6's avatar
    Yes
  21. MishMash's avatar
Can connect to a Blink doorbell?
Edit: Amazon reviewers say yes. (edited)
    Roygroyg's avatar
Mine is ok - just add both via Alexa app. When someone presses the blink doorbell it plays a tone and says “someone is at the door” although you can choose different alert options.
  22. Joseph_Fitzgerald's avatar
Can this be used together with non voice compatible Sonos?
    richco's avatar
Yes it can. I use one with an old Sonos Play:1
  23. jouster's avatar
my two arrived today...swapped out with an older gen 2 Dot and all working as expected (I also have it integrated into HomeAssistant)

To be honest, the speaker on it isnt as good as on the Gen 2 Dot, even for just Alexas responses...its loud enough but it just sounds pretty tinny...that said, mine is only to accept commands for turning on lights etc, and I actually route all audio in that room via a Sonos speaker.....so it's perfect and the ability to power a small USB powered device from it is really handy. I'll probably use it to power a small Eufy indoor USB camera

For £5, this, in my use case, is really handy....not sure where I'll use the second one yet..might go in the garage (edited)

Fyi: if your flex is silent when playing audible then it is probably on a very old version of the firmware. It will probably update itself eventually like one of mine did. To update quicker say 'Alexa check for software updates'. Mine said it could take 30 minutes but was done in 3. All my flexes working much better now.
  25. Pusa's avatar
Can this work on it's on? Does it need Echo device be at your home to work with?
    jujuzeez's avatar

works on its own, but you can't get the best out of it becos the speaker is shambolic.

Has anyone worked out if you can control the usb socket on the device. For example, could you plug a usb light into it and then ask it to switch it on/off?
    ccw71's avatar
    No, you can't.
  28. ARMADO's avatar
Hi, has anyone had any issues connecting Flex to Ring doorbell, and found any solutions?

My Dots are all connected fine to Ring, but when I connected Flex it won't respond to Ring. All Dots continue to work fine. Thanks
    slipd's avatar
If it's the same issue I had with my Eufy, you need to add the Flex as a chime output in the Alexa app

Didn’t know it could be used for this. It easy to set up? Might put one in office outbuild as when my phone is silenced I don’t know someone is at the door
  31. Haircut_100's avatar
Has anyone tried using these as an intercom between rooms with Alexa Drop In?
    richco's avatar
Yes you can, I do this regularly with mine. Sound quality isn't as good as other Echo speakers but perfectly sufficient to drop on the kitchen to request a cuppa 😄
  32. Odyssey's avatar
Still £4 to much, I have one and use it as a ring doorbell chime, apart from that its useless.
    Add_to_Basket's avatar
Useless?? You're obviously not using it right!!
