Special reserve still has the lusciously ripe, vibrant fruit of youth and lovely tannins which give it the slightly peppery spice on the tongue. But it also has the elegance of age the softness and smoothness that can only be achieved by slow ageing in old oak barrels. That's what puts the special in special reserve.
About this item
  • Youthful nose packed with rich and concentrated aromas of red fruits
  • Special reserve is a vintage character port, intended to reflect a shipper's vintage port style
  • Fruity and full-bodied quality, combined with a fine dry finish
  • Red Port is blended together using a number of grape varieties
  • On the palate sweet, well rounded, medium length and with luscious red berry flavours leading to a distinctive dry finish, balanced with fine wood-aged flavours

waits for usual boring and predictable comments - please can we not go through the same pain again, as we seem to do EVERY year?
£7.50 last year so I don't expect it to go lower than this.
    15% S&S = 18 Dec 2022 paid £6.37 - £6.80 now.
    Thanks OP. (edited)

Thing is 2 pints in a pub won't get you as drunk as a bottle of this for the price 🫣 drink this to the equivalent of the price of two pints
    Meltigemini's avatar
Good luck getting it for this price in a pub though (for a fair comparison).

Lild's ruby port Armilar is top notch for a low price if any of you haven't come across it yet.

Normally buy my mother the M&S Special reserve port decanter for Christmas, but don't drink the stuff myself. Is this any better, or should I stick to the traditional M&S? (edited)
    f56's avatar
This is nice enough port (bottles do vary though), but even without tasting the M&S jobbie, I'd stick with it. Need a bit of tradition at Christmas
  34. adzg91's avatar
Does the name have any correlation to the feeling the following morning after polishing off a whole bottle?

    Good price though, joking aside.
