Its old now, and they are working on a remake of it, but who knows whether that will ever get finished with all the studio takeovers and changes of direction and such. Even if they do release the remake they've already said it's not going to be a one-for-one copy - it sounds like its all being written in a new modern engine with new 3d models and artwork etc. Which means it has every chance of being a buggy mess of hot garbage with bugs and performance issues like most of the AAA games that seem to come out recently.
Personally, I still recommend checking out the original unaltered version. Sure, it's a bit dated looking but it plays brilliantly, will run on a potato and its an absolute masterpiece of RPG design and storytelling.
I've had issues with World War Z and Control where I later got a version of those games later with DLC included, but was never able to enable them on Epic cuz I already had the base version.
Hopefully that isn't the case here again.
GOG doesn't seem to have this problem; I noticed last night whilst browsing through my library that I have two different copies of Doom 3, with both looking like the BFG edition. One came from Amazon this month, but can't recall where the other one was given away from. Can't have purchased it as I already bought it on Steam ages ago
