Pill crusher

I have been getting shantys pill crusher for my dad as his medicine needs to be crushed into powder form but the pill crusher is made of plastic so don't tend to last long.

I have seen small pestle and mortar, which would obviously last forever, but wonder if anyone have experience, or know of family members and friends who have had good experience with a pill crusher that they can recommend?

Yep almost all tablets come in liquid form and/or disolvable (I look after someone). They are not always easy to source (need to work with your pharmacy). You've listed some that I have in liquid form

i am so glad i posted this question as i just assumed that the GP had prescribed the medicine in tablet form because they aren't available in liquid form as some of his medication already get prescribed in liquid form.

i have looked again at his daily prescription and it is actually only atorvastatin and amlodipine that are solid form as I had not read that some of what i had listed earlier was in soluble tablet form already.

i will speak to his chemist about these two medication being available in liquid form and then speak to his GP. if all goes well, i wouldn't need a pill crusher!

Rolling pin or wooden mallet with pills in a plaggy bag does the trick.

Ask your GP or district nurses (palliative if they are involved) they should give your dad one for free if his tablets need to be crushed, and they should issue replacements when necessary.

it is for the district nurse to use as they visit him daily because he is ill but they don't provide that and said that we have to get it ourselves.

yeah, i may go for that, but they are pretty heavy. i saw ones where you grind the tablets like those peppercorn grinders, but wonder how sturdy they are and how long they will keep going. but yeah, the pestle and mortar will certainly last forever!

Why does Shadwell & his brick collection come to mind?

As tardy says. Rolling pin, mallet or a brick will suffice. (edited)

    We bought these:
    amazon.co.uk/gp/…DW9

So far so good. 1 unit is around 5 quids, and two for around 6, so we opted for two just in case one breaks.

i bought a similar one from ebay and it broke on first use may be a bad one, but i have since stayed away from this sort of design.

Don’t suppose his meds come in non tablet form? Liquid or dispersible? That’s what we had to switch to for my mum.

unfortunately he is pretty sick and has to take so many medication. the GP prescribe the medicine in liquid form where this is available but not all medicines come in liquid form unfortunately.

Yeah, the nurse uses a spoon when the pill crusher is broke But it is more difficult to do so than a proper pill crusher. The GP already prescribes all the medicine that are available in liquid form.

yeah, that is similar to the shantys that i have bought. they seem to last longer than the others but still don't last that long.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I'd look into a flat pestle it should be lighter on the hand. or a mushroom one. Like this amazon.co.uk/Mar…JF/ (edited)
