Egr cleaner recommendations? (wynns power 7?)

Hi, I have a mk6 golf 1.6tdi. Egr went last year and had it replaced. Having similar codes crop up recently but disappeared since. (Car went fully limp mode and loss power at one point (cord p046c and p0403)). Only have done 9k miles since and lots of motorway before issues. Mechanic family friend suggested trying the fuel tank egr cleaners.

has anyone got any experience with the wynns power 7? It’s a bit pricey at 35-50£ depending if I get it from Halfords or online websites. Did pick up wynns extreme system clean but says it only maintains an egr so idk how effective it is.

would appreciate some advice. Thank you

No history of VW, so I can't offer pro help, but how difficult is it to remove and clean it thoroughly? I took the one off my diesel Jag, and cleaned it out by first scraping the bulk of the gunk out, then using a variety of degreasers and bathroom foam cleaner, before finishing off with several baths of hot water and detergent, then clean water, then blow drying it.
It has been back on the car for several months, with no issues.
The trouble with many of these spray in cans is that if the ingredients hit the target, then they might do something, but if they miss, and they invariably will, then that is a lot of wastage. Also, any crap that dislodges may end up in areas that are more expensive to clean/repair/replace

I wish I could do that with the golf. It’s the really hard to get to so even for garages its a few hours work.

haven’t been driving much the last couple days but seems like it hasn’t come back yet so want to hopefully try avoid a repeat and spend another ~£600

Cleaned mine last year on my Astra, took about 30mins to remove, would have been faster but one bolt was a nightmare
Used to APC and Super degrease. I've heard people using fairy washing liquid

30 minutes. That’s good. The vw group cars you have to take lots of stuff apart to get to egrs etc.

Fuel additives quite simply won't do anything to an egr.

    Needs manually cleaning or replacing.

Maybe consider having it mapped out, they're a nightmare. So long as it's not stuck open it'll run much better without it.

    I agree.

Get a remap and code out the egr.

It would eliminate a recurring issue
