CEX

I dropped a phone off today to CEX. I've just had a call from them saying it's been blacklisted. I owned the phone from new and even have the receipts on my emails. Is there any reason why they would say this. I was only using the phone 5 days ago. I've used multiple online checkers and they all show the phone as 'Clean' any advice please ?

Run the IMEI number(s) through CheckMend. It’s a paid service but will give you the exact same report that CeX rely on.

Many franchises will refuse the item if it’s ever been blacklisted in the past too, even if it isn’t currently. So if you previously blocked it as lost and then recovered it for example.

Other common reason for refusal is if it’s not blacklisted but recorded on AssetWatch to say it’s not your property to sell. EE for example retain ownership of contract phones until you’ve paid back a certain value - And will be reported as their assets until this point.

Once you’ve seen the report you can find out what the actual issue is and take it from there.

Never reported lost and it was purchased directed from one plus on release day. That's why I'm very confused but I'll have a look at checkmend ty

In going to go into them when I can and go and see. I'm just wondering if they just don't want to buy it. There was 2 listing for the same phone same model etc but 2 different prices to I picked the higher one to trade it in as. I'm thinking maybe they just don't want to buy it for the higher price

Make sure you get your actual phone back, I've had CEX try switch out items for worse condition ones before.

According to there site there's only 4 or 5 of the phone I'm selling in the country and the branch I'm using has no stock

Just get it back from them. They normally put the IMEI on the receipt they give you. I have had issues with them recently they have gone really downhill at my local branch and now grade everything used as C even if it is immaculate until they inspect it (edited)

I'm going to pop in tomorrow. I mean I don't know why it's showing that mark on it it's very odd as I've owned the phone from new. My wife says I'm surgically attached to the phone so deffo never lost it etc

I think they have your item confused with someone else’s

Would you get the phone back? As the item is of interest to the Police, CEX have a duty to hold on to it to hand it over when an officer calls to collect. In much the same way as handing over a fake bank note you thought genuine. The best you will get is a receipt. At which point the onus is on you to prove to the Police the true status of the phone

I mean my receipt should be enough to prove my ownership I hope
