Grain Connect

Hey Guys,

Just seen a new provider in town offering fibre - Grain Connect.

Currently with Virgin who are not providing a discount or a decent deal so thinking whether Grain is worth a try.

Is there anyone who is with Grain? How are you finding it?
Speeds any good? shocked to see they offer upload/ download at the same speeds.

Thanks

Been on the 100mb package for a while now and the internet itself is pretty solid. Speeds are actually faster than advertised. Their router however is not as great. Signal does occasionally drop out and the 5ghz network often disconnects from devices completely or operates at a lower speed than the 2.4ghz network. That said, I'm glad I signed up with them as it's the only FTTH option available and best value for money compared to other ISPs

    Thanks for confirming.

Router i'm not fussed about as i will be connecting to a mesh network and tunring off the wifi on the actual router.

Been with Grain for 18 months. I pay for the 100mbps service and regularly achieve 300 down. Very reliable. It’s gone offline just 2ce and that was in the early hours. Customer service is from Cumbria and they are good. The router is locked down. They wouldn’t let me plug a USB hdd in and you cannot amend the password or ssid yourself. I emailed the details and it was done in no time at all - saved me from updating all my light switches etc.with a new id and password.

    thanks for your response.

I'm surprised they don't allow you to change the SSID or Password!!! How old school!

Is there any reason why they wouldnt let you plug a usb drive in?

I'm looking at utilising a MESH system, i seriously hope they don't have a problem with that as that's a deal breaker.

They told me the USB ban was to do with security.
E.g. You used to be able to plug a third party TV box into virgin cable broadband and watch TV.
Mesh should be ok if it’s all done via WiFi. If you need to plug it into o the router I should email them and ask before you subscribe
