I have an old Brother laser printer, one side has started to go faded... am I right in assuming it probably needs a new drum?
    XoCaliburn's avatar
Yea and maybe a clean. I forget the exact name but the roller thing might need a clean. You can look it up on YouTube. Had the same problem and cleaned it a bit and it works good again. Just needs some maintenance.

    Good printer but like mentioned
Previously how much would the replacement toner be? Someone put a deal up for about £40 which isnt too bad if true
    garbageguy's avatar
I have an old Epson printer and I dont use it that much, my ink dries up, at about £20 for a set from the local market, I probably only get 50 pages before its dried up or used up, the laser works out a lot cheaper.
  3. wozwebs's avatar
£20 cash back OR 3 years warranty. Which would be better do you think? Surely not too many issues in 3 years?
    zombie_unchained's avatar
Cash back ... brothers are Toyota of printer
  4. garbageguy's avatar
Is there one with a scanner on it pls?
    Legohead22's avatar
Same. I would like to know this too. Looking to get rid of my HP printer out of principle. Can't even scan a document if I dont have an internet connection for the HP app.

    Than which sorry?

If I needed a printer right now, I’d be all over this. But my equivalent Brother laser (2135W) bought in 2012 is still going strong!
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
Yeah I have the same, it's pretty bulletproof and would have no hesitation getting another Brother when it does finally give up

£20 cashback or 3 year warranty, if you buy from Currys. Get them to price match?
  9. stratford123's avatar
this is a great deal and heat added. I'd placed an order for it but looks like estimated shipping is now in early April. I then spotted the HL-L2445DW model on Amazon at just £8 more and ordered that instead for shipping in a few days.

It's almost identical but comes with a 1200 page toner rather than 700 page toner. (plus added ethernet connection and very slightly faster ppm print speed) (edited)
    ruheluddin86's avatar
    Link please?

Sorry not fully read description but does the one you ordered print double sided auto?
  10. s_quay's avatar
    Does it come with ink?
    Regprentice's avatar
yes. it says it comes with a 700 page toner. thats slightly smaller than the normal retail cartridge prints (1200 pages) but its not unusual for manufacturers to sell printers with small cartridges
  11. AzeemB's avatar
I have the previous model, looks the same.

    Its good.

Some issues I had, I had an issue connecting over wifi to my other hardware, this might an issue on my side. (I just connected by usb now)

Trying to get it to print straight on envelopes is not great. Also seems to crumple the envelope a little. I think this needs a bit more experimentation by me. Paper also comes out a little hot and curled (not an issue, just an observation)

It randomly stopped printing saying the toner needs changing when it hit around 500 prints. No warning or anything! 1 hour before my deadline

to reset it, you need to take the toner out and then do the reset procedure plastered all over the internet

I also don't think I actually had done 500+ prints

( I have bought a spare toner now)
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
Had the same problem with envelopes, I guess they don't like the heat. I've switched to printing on sticky labels instead, much easier

    Have a Brother HL-1100.
Use a generic cartridge in it, but the driver tells me it's empty (even though it's full) and the printer always prints in draft quality whatever quality I select. That's only my 1st cartridge post-OEM, so my drum is still good.
So yes, you can use generic in Brother, but you may not get OEM quality.
And that's with an old Brother printer (about 10 years old?) so I don't expect newer models are playing nicer.
Or maybe I've just got a lemon.
    nazsoftuk's avatar
I have an DCP-1600W that I bought via a deal on here years ago. Only ever used the genuine toner that came with it and since have only used after market ones from eBay.
I've not had that issue. I usually find when it starts to show signs of running out, i.e. faded prints, removing the toner and giving it a gentle shake from side to side, means I can get a bit more use out of it before it's completely empty. (edited)
  13. Hanzoo118's avatar
That's a bargain , and generic toners should be available soon as well
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
    ... should?
  14. Hassann's avatar
    Rather use my work's printer
  15. SilverBlack's avatar
Best thing i ever did was get a laser printer.Bought an HP one 5 years ago for £77 but got £50 cashback from HP.It's still going on the original toner cartridge
  16. TehSpikeZz's avatar
I have this and it's fantastic.
    AstalaVista's avatar
How much is the replacement toner for this? Any links would be helpful
  17. Legohead22's avatar
Found currys selling model ending with E and they will pricematch rymans at 89.99. With cashback is 69.99
  18. iGlad's avatar
Bargain price almost bought one last weekend as I thought my Samsung printer had packed. Eventually after an hour of downloading software drivers reading forums I realised I didn’t have the printer lead plugged in. Duh.
  19. greg666's avatar
Purchased a brother hl-l2350dw on FM for £45.

    96% drum unit
    70% original toner

Worth to give it a try
  20. AAa5353's avatar
Is it printing directly from phone?
    Aizee_wizzy's avatar
    Yes, via the Brother app
  21. garbageguy's avatar
    Im gonna do that
  22. AstalaVista's avatar
Any best value cartridges for this printer?

    Planning to order it (edited)
  23. garbageguy's avatar
Currys Blackpool refused to price match as there model is the Brother HL-L2400DWE, someone added an E to the model number
    AstalaVista's avatar
Have you tried online chat? They agreed for me.
  24. AndyCr15's avatar
I just got this about £4 cheaper, inc P+P from Printerland...
  25. Mentos's avatar
Any decent deals for MF printers? Has to be laser as we don’t use it regularly so ink will dry out (not an issue with Instant Ink).

Considerint dropping Instant Ink now they put the prices up. Or just grabbing the cheapest Instant Ink printer with 9 months Ink and then binning it. (edited)
  26. Pom57's avatar
Hot. Always had brother printers and tempted by this!
  27. Bargaino's avatar
    Ordered!
  28. Kplunk's avatar
Thanks i also ordered. Its 89.99 on rymans and same 20 cashback deal as currys

Also new registered email will give 10 percent further

Btw they have those big 145l stratus boxes for 15 quid. I added a couple very useful and free delivery for everything
    Sully's avatar
Can you claim the cashback ontop of promotion discounts?
  29. Sunni's avatar
Can this print double sided automatically? Currys specs says automatic in one place and manual on the other.
    Sully's avatar
I think its 2 side automatic, since thats what it says on the brother website. Where did you read manual?
  30. katya1971's avatar
Reviews say it’s hard to get around the toner subscription, can anyone confirm. I’m stuck with the hp one and I’m not happy about the recent price increase so need to find replacement , we are not large volume printers  so thinking a laser is way to go
    Regprentice's avatar
that shouldn't be the case for this model. People are also referring to a ryman and currys offer for a subscription specific version of this machine which has a slightly different model number .... but this £83 amazon deal isn't anything to do with subscriptions.
  31. Chomper21's avatar
You need a PHd to work out how to print from your phone
    jewelie's avatar
    I hear you!

Things are changing, printer drivers and their associated chaos are becoming a thing of the past.

There's a new standard that pretty much everyone now adhere's to, and it means at most just one thing to install on your mobile.

Go visit mopria.org and click on the link for the Android Google Play plugin. (Ironically they've messed up one of the links on the webpage to it! It's play.google.com/sto…gin )

I think Windows 11 etc support Mopria out of the box now.

Brother lasers are brilliant, no hassle, it-just-works printers that work with just about everything and keep doing so for years. I'm so glad I got one (on the advice of business IT support friends etc.) They even continue to support them years down the line with the occasional firmware updates where necessary and useful (bug fixes and genuine improvements.) (edited)

    Trust da brudda 💯
  34. ruheluddin86's avatar
Is this even available to buy, don’t see an option on Amazon?

Where’s it cheapest to buy from and what are people saying about cashback from curry’s but it cost £99.99 so £79.99 works out same price as Ryman???
    gallopingbanker's avatar
    It’s back on!
  35. Legohead22's avatar
Got my £20 cashback from Brother today so the printer only cost me £69.99
