If it's straight flight, normal stairs you have more options -

Used, sold private - need an installer, but the cheapest option to buy. Many many people install near end of life and therefore have no use a short time after - your buying almost new. No guarantee.

New - either buy with a guarantee or service plan or buy refurbished from the providers. Can also rent from them.

Have done this a few times over the years in different properties. Get all the providers out to quote - let them know you are getting several quotes and they will compete, but there is not a lot of discount available. Anyone offering silly cheap needs to be avoided.

If it's not a straight set of stairs then your severely limited - buy or rent new and the cost is astronomical compared to straight on average 3 times the cost

We had a new one in my house for my mother that was hardly used and I would have no qualms about buying second hand next time as apparently just like ours most of them get little use.I sold ours on Ebay to get it out of the way.

We managed to win one for my nan on ebay for only £250 and it was basically brand new.
Collected it in a van and installed it ourselves, it was literally a few screws to stick the two halves together and then 16 screws into the wooden steps through carpet, unfortunately my nan died a year later so now its used by my young nephews for fun i guess until my sister gets rid of it (edited)
