sorted byQuest 1 good for watching films and playing the games that still work on it as device is out of support.
Quest 2 great for watching films, playing more games and experiencing an introduction to mixed reality (blurry cameras), support should last 2/3 years.
Quest 3 superb for watching HD films in higher image quality, playing games and enjoying mixed reality, support should last 4/5 years based on previous experience with these devices as technology is changing fast.
They may be better in future, but the past is not really a indicating that.
That said, having a gaming PC opens up a much *much* larger, graphically more impressive (and cheaper!) library of games.
Even standalone Quest 2 is leagues ahead of the PSVR1(+PS4).
PSVR2(+PS5) is a better headset with comparable performance to having the Quest 2 paired with a mid range PC.
However the PSVR2 games catalogue is tiny and very unlikely to grow significantly. It's a dead end.
*Edit*
Just a small update; apparently Sony have announced that the PSVR2 is getting PC support!
Somewhat exciting news if you're a PC gamer after a capable (but tethered) headset on the cheap. Not such good news for VR on the PS5 though. (edited)
"Games frequently mentioned for casual entertainment include Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Ragnarock, Walkabout Mini Golf and Superhot VR."

The pancake lenses and colour passthrough really make it a winner.
Plus, as I discovered with the quest 1, some companies will stop updating the software for the older model within a couple of years and you may be left unable to play certain games.
But agree, it didn't need to have advanced in the title
But agree, they didn't need to put advanced in the title
Answered my own question
Looks okay, not sure if the 3 is worth the upgrade if that's what you really want or for (edited)
If you just want to dip your toes into things consider just going to a VR experience.
(apple's is 90 hz.... unbelieveable)
baseline- you need 360 hz with ULMB2
digital foundry compared ULMB2 to a LG CX black frame insertion- that would be like comparing DLSS quality at 4k to a 4k tv stretching a 480p video signal to fit on a 4k screen
ULMB2 is superior to CRT motion clarity
the only way you cure motion sickness is to use it @360hz with a passthru that fast
Given the advancements we've seen in the last 6-7 years, I'm really excited to see what the next 10 years is going to bring.
