I don’t know what the general reliability of these Anker PowerHouses is, but we had one that worked for a few weeks, but then stopped producing AC power altogether.

Dealing with Anker was a nightmare, because they have no system for collecting faulty products, and it’s pretty much impossible to find any carrier that will take one.

    Then I checked this:

    uk.trustpilot.com/rev…com

Anker are superb at selling, but don’t expect any real help if there’s a fault. OK if you live near Cardiff though!

I was going to get one of these so I could charge at work and power my work laptop when I work from home. Seemed like a good idea until someone said it holds about 10p's worth of electricity
    Liam_D's avatar
    Even less than 10p 😁

It's really only worth it for camping trips, rather than any clever money saving like you say.

I have the next one up from this and it is very good.

How long do these keep their full charge?

Would one keep charge for example a full month before starting to wear off?

Decent price but 256wh and 200w seems like a weird middle ground for a mains power station. 200w rules out anything heat related pretty much(including heating water or cooking) apart from something like a heated blanket. Could do laptops and stuff but so can a normal USB portable battery. I feel like getting a normal phone/laptop portable battery for those things and then a proper power station for everything else would be a good idea, especially if it has a solar input for future proofing. But that would cost 3x as much i suppose.

Add a cheap solar panel and you will be able to top it up during the day.

Not sure of this or smaller power banks ie 20000mah that would be more flexible in use and a lot cheaper

This will last for more cycles than a li-ion powerbank would - though you're trading off portability.

Got one at the earlier price, so far so good. Test will be end of this month in the caravan and hoping to get the solar panel for it before then

You can charge this off the cigarette lighter socket while your driving.

These are for when you have power outages or to provide power where power otherwise doesn’t exist. For those purposes they’re brilliant. We’ve got four of varying capacities.

Both of us were working from home last week when the power went out - plugged the modem and router into one, the telly into another, and then we had one each to power laptops and external monitors.

Yep, this is the exact reason why I have one too. Our is an ecoflow 768 Wh River 2 Pro. Love it.

Alot of the cost for this type of thing seems to be battery chemistry + convince. about £200 (if memory serves) will get you a lifepo4 battery with 1kwh capacity. It doesnt have an inverter, carry case, charger etc.

Ive been happy with mine for light use, if you run a laptop off usb c rather than the AC it'll get about 7-10h if the laptop internal battery is full and you arent doing anything too heavy. Same runtime with the steamdeck gaming effectively

It'll only surge to 300w so a fridge may fail to start up even if it only uses 100w to operate. Older fridge failed to work, newer one had a smaller pump and ramped up so appeared to work after taking too much power and stopping for a moment.

If you want to do 'real' backup things, ie run your fridge or TV a 500wh will work but be too small so look at 1kwh (edited)

How is this for a cpap machine, would be ideal if it ran for a couple of nights with one
    deep.thought's avatar
There's a bigger one that references running a CPAP in their docs...

You'd probably need to find out how much power it uses then x /180 to get the hours it can run. Inverter loses power and you don't want stopping in the middle of the night hence why I didn't do 256
