So many of us actually autistic adults despise the term ‘ASD’ as well as the puzzle piece. The puzzle piece has very problematic history, and we are not ‘disordered’.

My daughter is autistic and me and my wife often say we find the missing puzzle piece quite offensive. It’s kind of insinuating that people with autism are somehow second rate citizens?

I would avoid this book, as if they’re continuing to use the puzzle pieces to represent autism, they’re not listening to and representing autistic people’s voices. The neurodiversity movement refutes the medical ‘deficit’ model of neurodiversity and the puzzle piece represents that. We don’t have missing pieces.

One for ADHD or will this be a good read for that too?

They are very different and need different strategies so don’t think this would be worth it.
