I can probably offer an interesting perspective on the Samsung tags vs the Apple Airtag version...if that's a question you've been wondering. My son is spending 2.5 months touring Europe with his girlfriend, mainly staying in France and Spain. They left last Friday.

With his full permission I've placed both a Samsung galaxy tag and an Apple Airtag inside his car. Since he left the UK has has has travelled via Brussels, Luxembourg and now Strausbourg. At every location the Samsung tag has beaten the Airtag in terms of regular updates. Added to that the Samsung tag has a one week history of locations where the tag has pinged off of another Samsung phone, so I can even see the main roads/routes he's travelled along each day (within reason). By comparison, the Airtag will only show you the last place it pinged off of an Apple device.

Finally, as far as I'm aware, the Samsung tag doesn't emit a warning beep after 3 days of being separated from the registered owner, as the Apple airtag does as an anti-stalking precaution.

Also, when separated from the registered Airtag owner, the Airtag will usually send a message to the person's phone it is travelling with (whether they are an Android or iPhone user), saying that they are being tracked by an Airtag.

Admittedly this is all very good iro prevent stalking. But in the situation with my son, where he is happy for us to know where he is, the beeping and messages would have been an annoyance to him. To avoid the beeping, I disabled the speaker on the Airtag (thank you Youtube!).

But I think the main takeaway message here, despite what I have read online (which arguably might apply to the US where iPhones are probably more prolific), is the Samsung galaxy tag is outperforming the Apple Airtag in terms of pinging off of other phones in the parts of Europe my son is visiting. How does the samsung tag network compare to apple?
    rprp's avatar
About 12 months ago I read a comparison of Tile, Apple and Samsung. Apple and Samsung were well ahead of Tile, and to all intents and purposes, about as good as each other.

I've super impressed with my Smart Tags.

Anyone use these for finding their dog?
    jaddy's avatar
No, but they will work perfectly, the dog would need to be relatively near or has been near a samsung device, there also waterproof, and you can add a message to the tag so if anyone finds your dog and taps there phione to the tag the message will appear on there phone, something like my name is shep my owners number is 07123456789

What are people using these for? I was thinking of hiding one in my car, like a tracker. (edited)
    Nihaar_Cherodian's avatar
It's a tracker uses people's galaxy phones to sync using a ultra low wide band signal
  7. jkhk00's avatar
Does anyone know if it works with non-samsung phones? I looked it up briefly and it seems that the tracker is for samsung phones only.

    You're right. Only for Samsungs.

Black is the same price, but delivery at the end of April. Ordered one of each.

So if I understand correctly, all Samsung phones with bluetooth turned on will pick up on these when close by. Anyone know how close? I live in a pretty rural area so thinking if people have to be within 5m or so then the usage is limited for me. I can imagine they would work really well in urban settings...
    sc597's avatar
Thanks OP for directing me to an article explaining the following: "theoretical 120-meter distance, but in my experience, with walls and obstacles, that was about 30 meters tops."

I've used the version 1 tags for about 3 years I think. Version 1 needs the battery changing every 9 months in my experience and these allegedly last twice as long.

I travel a lot and have these in my bags. Sometimes I have to travel without my luggage but I can always see where the luggage is as so many people have Samsung phones. Through New York, Chicago and San Francisco I've seen detailed tracking of my bags. In Europe even moreso. I feel like in Europe the ground crews are made to have a Samsung phone amongst them.

The price gave me peace of mind and these at this price are a steal. I've ordered another couple and when the price goes back to normal I'll sell the old ones (after some testing of both!

Hide one in your car and presto , car tracker . Though i have always asked myself what I would do if i have my car stolen and can track it. Official guidance is to call the police. But i doubt the police will do anything about it.

good idea to confront the car jackers? (edited)

Has anyone with the old smart tags been able to view their location on an Alexa device (with a screen). I've enabled Smart Things but isn't able to discover a Samsung 'tracker'
