Katsuhiro Otomo directs this feature-length anime set in Tokyo in 2019. With the Japanese capital on the brink of absolute destruction, cyberpunk biker Tetsuo (voice of Nozomu Sasaki) has become involved in a top-secret military research project and has begun to develop special powers. The police and the army attempt to contain Tetsuo, but his transformation gathers speed rapidly, and soon not even his friend Kaneda (Mitsuo Iwata) can help him as society descends further into chaos.

In 1988 the Japanese government drops an atomic bomb on Tokyo after ESP experiments on children go awry. In 2019, 31 years after nuking the city, Kaneda, a bike gang leader, tries to save his friend Tetsuo from a secret government project. He battles against anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader until Tetsuo's supernatural power suddenly manifest. A final battle is fought in Tokyo Olympiad exposing the experiment's secrets.

    After buying 1000+ DVDs in the late 90s to late 2000s, and about 400+ blurays (and HDDVDs), I'm very picky about 4k films. Only the best of the best will be bought.

    This is one of them. Absolutely gorgeous and well worth this price. And I don't really like Anime. (edited)
