- Fluent is a weasel word. It depends how you define Fluency.
The FSI (Foreign Services Institute) gives a guideline of 2200 hours to learn Japanese to fluency.
reddit.com/r/l…ge/
"TL;DR: I state what I have achieved over my 2200 hours of Japanese and compare it to the FSI's chart for category V languages. I find that I can do everything that the FSI says you should be able to do after 2200 classroom hours and highlight a few important points I've learnt along the way."
There's around 730 hours in a month. If you stayed awake for 3 months continually learning Japanese 24/7 that is around 90 days and 2190 hours. So theoretically it is possible but biologically impossible.
So if you define fluency as per the FSI then it is fundamentally impossible to be fluent in Japanese in 3 months / 90 days.
Realistically you need to spend 2 - 3 hours a day studying Japanese via various methods that work for you, for about 4-5 years to become fluent and that would be the recommended course of action.
If you want to attempt fluency you need a number of methods >

Also Graded Readers

Reading, Writing, Understanding, Speaking. These are the fundamental elements of language acquistion. Notice how I don't mention DuoLingo. You are holding yourself back using apps such as these.
You need to immerse in the language, listen to it for hours and hours. Interact with it - Language Reactor (works with YouTube, Netflix etc), you need to read the language - graded readers and you need to write the language - Goldlist method. You can practice speaking at any time you wish, some methods suggest holding off speaking until your language acquisition level increases.
If you do this for 2 hours a day on average you will see success. (edited)Great post, Language Reactor, Yomitan extension, Anki and even Youtube channels like ToKini Andy that cover grammar all the way to N2 are great resources to get you on your way. Throw in some RTK or Wanikani for tackling Kanji (or through Anki) and you are good to go! - I have doubts... I've been learning Japanese every day for 7 years and I'm far from fluent but I'll give it a goIf you had purchased this book, you would have been fluent 6yrs 9months ago
