Are we allowing food products past their best before date here? Would there not be a health concern if someone falls ill or has a reaction?

Best before has nothing to do with health and safety, its simply a ‘guarantee’ of certain standards of taste, smell etc. You are probably thinking of use by dates. Even after best before dates have passed most foods have vastly longer life still tasting perfectly fine, but manufacturers have to cover their backs.
Sadly huge quantities of perfectly good food are disposed of due to this misunderstanding.

That's how it works reel them in with one good offer and make them spend above and beyond on stuff they don't want to buy... Terrible practice imo, they are all same scam dragon and jebait foods alike.
