A really good price for a direct flight. This price on this flight is usually for flights with stops.

The destination

"With Ming-era city walls intact, vendors of all descriptions crowding the narrow lanes of the Muslim Quarter and enough places of interest to keep even the most diligent historian busy, Xi’an is a real mix of ancient and modern China.

Xi'an is where the Silk Road ended in the East and is home to the famed army of terracotta soldiers that belonged to the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. It is the city where old Chinese traditions meet a developing metropolis spectacularly. Whether you’re looking to dive deep into the language, explore the museums, experience street food culture or get out into the countryside, there could not be a better place for you to live.

Even in a big city like Xi’an, the cost of living is quite low. It’s possible to eat out every night, live in a western-style apartment and travel on weekends. If you like to cook at home, you can visit any of the markets for fresh fruits and vegetables or a grocery store for all goods."

I don't understand how these last minute flights to China work because surely no one would be able to get a visa in time?

    1. You might hold a passport that doesn't need a visa for China. You could be Chinese and there plenty in the UK.
    2. Citizens of several EU nations have been given 15 day visa free entry to China as an experiment in 2024. Unfortunately not UK citizens.
    3. UK citizens however can use Transit without Visa if you're prepared to do a side trip somewhere in Asia, see the chatter I did in this recent thread

Visa fee for Chinese to visit UK isn't cheap either. I am sure they are annoyed as well. Many more tourists go to Europe because one visa gets them into many countries. (edited)
