    just a word of warning:
Most kettles use between 2-3 kWh of electricity. A lower kWh doesn't necessarily mean that the kettle uses less electricity to boil water than one with a higher kWh. Generally speaking, a lower kWh means the kettle will take longer to boil, meaning it's going to be using energy over a longer period of time

    Not quite true...

Kettles (like this one) typical pull 3 kW from the plug socket. Mine can boil a full kettle in 4 minutes. It therefore uses 3 x 4/60 = 0.2 kWh of power, which at 30p/kWh will cost you 6p.

My kettle has a thin metal skin. When I switch it on & the water starts to heat up, part of the power going into kettle is lost to heating up the air in the kitchen because metal is an excellent conductor.

This kettle is 'cool touch' because borosilicate glass is an excellent thermal insulator. All things being equal, it should boil quicker & keep the water inside hotter for longer than with a metal kettle. TBH, at this price, it's a steal! (edited)

It is plastic glass, bought and returned.

    borosilicate glass

Just a word of caution with these. The plastic top doesn’t seal particularly well and is prone to delivering quite a nasty steam burn when pouring because the steam goes straight out of the gap and over your hand.

I've had one of these for a few years, bought from Wilko when the Bosch I'd had for over 20 years gave up the ghost.

Entirely correct about needing to be careful of the steam and the other thing I don't like is the lack of auto-cutoff if you lift it before it has boiled fully, which then does cut off. Unless they've changed it in the last couple of years, when you place it back on the mount it starts boiling again.

Note, I am talking about if you lift it before it reaches its own boiling point trip out. Rather than having to turn it on to start the boiling process again if that's what you want, you have to turn it off if you don't.

If you live alone measure your cup/mug with water see how far it comes up the glass, that will be your marker whenever you fancy a cuppa. Far too many people fill their kettles right up when its the simplest way of saving energy.
    Loko1932's avatar
True but all of them have a minimum level of water marked somewhere an it's better not to go lower that it

I use about half an inch of white wine vinegar when mine needs descaling. It works in minutes. I also swoosh it around the inside of the glass. When finished I use the vinegar to wipe over the outside of the glass. What an exciting life I lead!
    steve123uk's avatar
And an even more exciting life when you realise citric acid powder cleans all limescale in seconds, better than vinegar
  6. PiratePete's avatar
Be aware in hard water areas like mine you will be descaling it every few days! 😁💦💦
    Spaced_Out's avatar
Like every other kettle The difference is at least with this one you can see when it needs descaling instead of tasting when it needs it doing

Good luck for those with limescale issue

I thought the same thing when we bought our glass kettle a couple of years ago. It only really get's limescale at the bottom 1-2 inches of the glass so it's no trouble to get off.

It's really easy to clean and quick. It takes less than 5 minutes to descale and clean with a liquid descaler from home bargains I believe it's brand is Killrock? I could be wrong..

Nice! I love glass kettles, easy to see what's left inside, when some cleaning is needed and some have the colour changing based on the temperature which is useful. I'll check our branch on Monday.

nice price, but the petrol price to get to nearest one, is not cheap.

I have recently bought a similar kettle that is wider at the base than at the top, and I find that if using it for just one or two cups, I have to tip the kettle over too much to get all the water out, resulting in water coming out from the lid, as well as the spout. I have partly got around this by discarding the limescale filter, but the next kettle I buy will not be of this design.

Did they have many left? Was in a couple of hours ago but stupidly only just checked on here for deals.

Edit: none left (no idea how many were or if poster got last one) as of Sunday afternoon. Checked with till assistant who double checked with manager. Scorching hot deal but can’t see anyone in thread saying they got one - typical hukd! (edited)

    Roygroyg's avatar
None in stock there as checked yesterday and asked in case any out back. Poster not indicated how many if any were left after they got but it.had been on sale at increasing reduction (prev £9.99 and staff member I spoke to quoted that) so unlikely many.

Amazing deal and great find! The amount of water heated is the main thing that affects kettle energy use though. This kettle has a minimum fill level 0.5 ltr. This means if you are mostly brewing for a regular sized (240-350ml) hot drink for one, you will always heat too much water. The lack of cup size indicator inside will also mean it's tricky to know if you are heating too much water.

This or some crack, can't see them selling many
