Why always London

Maybe for those days when they don’t want to show the thought the sun shines out of their backsides!

Think I’d rather visit Chernobyl than parts of London!

No - you need to go on an organised tour. And it is very strict on this for obvious reasons. You possibly could try and get someone to drive you near the exclusion zone but there is strict security entering the actual area.
I have just come back from Kiev a couple of weeks ago. What an amazing city - absolutely loved the place. Spent five days there and that was enough to get to see everything we wanted. The Metro is superb and works like clockwork. It is really cheap to drink and eat out. The parks in and around the centre are lovely in the evening and have people teaching dancing for free. So civilised - in fact I was gobsmacked at just how smart the place was. Especially the Western side of the island where Hidropark station was. Really nice 'beaches' with restaurants doing charcoal grilled meats and vegetables. Would highly advise heading down here in the early evening and getting a seat overlooking the Lavra.

Some of those pictures look like they have been taken from S.T.A.L.K.E.R!
I met A Chick in Kiev
Fifty thousand people used to live here...Now it's a ghost town.
Wonderful city to visit with so much going on. Everyone seems to be out each evening enjoying the setting sun, some food and drinks either in the parks, along the boulevards or along the river. Apart from the crazy traffic it is a surprisingly interesting city with loads to do and a thriving art/hipster vibe at the moment. Easy to get around with the metro (costs absolutely nothing!). Some awkward moments with the language but everyone has a smartphone nowadays with google translate.

Would recommend doing a 2 day Chernobyl tour (as in staying in the exclusion zone for one night) as you get to see a lot more and do some "independent" exploration of Pripyat.

Has anyone used Crystal travel?. Was going to use them for a Venice trip, but when i went to their website my virus protection kicked in which isn't a great start, so booked it independently which actually worked out slightly cheaper!

Planning on going in sep myself. What stuff did you do so I can try to plan ahead and decide what I can fit in and what I can leave out.
December isn't exactly peak period for Kiev, personally I try to avoid continental winters, they aren't pleasant.

To be honest unless you have a valid interest or occupation a Chernobyl visit is of dubious merit. While the security is pretty strict it's still Ukraine and some of the tour operators aren't exactly on the up and up and will bend or even break the rules. Quite a few incidents in the last few years of people going to areas that aren't allowed and even removing things from the exclusion zone which isn't allowed (and deeply stupid).

Grab a cheap flight this summer, it's a busy place so lots of flights and good value year round.

Best comment ever and on point
Avoid crystal travel at all costs. Totally ruined our family holiday last year with their incompetence.
I'm here in Kyiv right now for a month improving my Russian. It's a cool city, but keep in mind pretty much no one speaks English or if they do it's not a good level. Food is pretty cheap and good quality, booze is cheap like a quid for a bottle of vodka and a quid for malboros (I don't smoke). It's interesting walking down the road seeing every other girl look like a model, makes a nice change from the UK lol. Also there's no chavs here to say "oi what u looking at mate" when you accidentally make eye contact, so pretty happy lol

Cabs are pretty cheap too, my most expensive uber has been about £4 for like a 25 minute ride. People seem pretty nice, customer service isn't great in most places, but even ukranians find customer service workers rude. There's also an active neo nazi movement called Azov so if you're non-white like me, you need to watch out a bit but you should be fine as they don't really bother people, they're very rare to see anyways. It's not advisable to be out after 12 imo too. Also there's a foreign guy I've heard about that goes around targeting foreigners saying do you want to have a drink I'm lost or something then drugs and robs you lol, so google search scams before you go.
