Pretty much everyone plastic coats their leather these days. to get the colour and/or texture. They are not dyed. The coating is prone to creasing and flaking after a while.. if you are a trainer collecter, dealing with bits flaking off and creasing and soles coming unstuck is par for the course... but usually it takes a few years so not a factor for most people..
Sneakerheads though have dozens or even hundreds of pairs of shoes.. all falling apart over time.. and they do all come unctuck in the end... though a stitched sole helps a bit..
