Got this deal last time. Took it in, they tested for leaks, none found. Filled it up. A day later it was warm again. Took it back, they rechecked it, still no leaks found, refilled it and as they drive it out to me I could literally see the coolant gas coming out from under the car.... "must have a leak" they said?!?!?! Took it to Kia and explained the above so they said they'd look at it. Hooked it up and tested it, no leaks found, so Kia regassed it and 3 months later, still working great.

So no idea what ATS did but they screwed it up good and proper!! After complaining I managed to get a refund, but would never use them again personally.

Do myself. Almost as easy as blowing up your tyres.
    ashyt16turbo's avatar
Not the same, leak test, empty, refill.

I would not recommend ATS for an air conditioning recharge.

I bought this deal and it almost cost me hundreds of pounds in repairs.

The ATS garage I went to (Kettering), did not fill my car with the correct amount and put strain on my compressor.

I took it to an air conditioning specialist literally across the road from this ATS centre (Bee-Cool) and they removed the refrigerant ATS put in my car and showed me that they had only filled it up to 60%, hence why my car a/c was not working. They refilled my car to the correct level and my a/c is working better than ever.
Bee-Cool told me that they have had dozens of previous ATS customers through their doors with exactly the same experience. Some with damaged compressors due to a lack of lubricant/gas. I contacted ATS customer services and received absolutely no response. I will never trust ATS again.

I contacted Groupon and after complaining received a full refund.

No heat added or cold for this, just warning others of my experience. (edited)
    deleted48909's avatar
This is a case of Bee-cool playing on using sharp practices......by convincing you that ATS hadn't done a job properly so they could get your business.

ATS have no power over what their equipment does, it's an automated process. To underfill your car they would have to scan the VID barcode from another car into their machine......not that likely.

These clowns did mine with a groupon voucher and insisted on doing there “health check”
Told me my breaks weee dangerously low, funny that as the car had passed it’s MOT the day before.
the aircon lasted a day before dying again.
    MrSprkle's avatar
    How were your Brakes though?
  5. mysat26's avatar
Although they refill and do the job but the main job is to find other issues - they tried to instill fear in me by telling me 2 of my tyres are dangerous and needed replacing which I refused. I got them checked elsewhere and was told got at least another six months of use left.
    deleted248415's avatar
They did that to me too. They said brake fuel low and they can top up for certain price. When I said no cash they said they have voucher code which can make it half price. They also told me of tyre issues and some joint seals

Had mine done last month but made no difference (not directly ATS’ fault). It had passed the automated test but those machines don’t hold a vacuum test for very long.

Hooked it up to ISTA-D and no electrical issues with the cooling fan or compressor.

Tool it to a BMW/Mini specialist and £300 later I’ve got a new condenser and regassed and it’s working. Perhaps not surprising as the car is 12 years old now, and they showed me the old condenser (not the worst I’ve ever seen but the ATS re-gas must have come straight back out).

Don’t think I’ve got any comeback with ATS as the automated machine didn’t flag an issue.

Can’t account for old parts but it’s worth using your A/C all year round to prevent seals drying out.
    MarcoSymondi's avatar
I’ve got to agree, Wowcher , Groupon & living social will all rip you off given half a chance I would avoid them.

My Honda dealer charged £99 for the new gas, including a sanitiser spray.
    stuartbywater's avatar
Just about to book but then checked my Honda dealer after seeing your comment. Couldn't believe that Honda was cheaper. My system is for new gas, so hopefully it keeps me going for a while..... and the price difference to the old gas is crazy!!
  10. Sophiasky's avatar
I've also heard about them telling you that you have a leak and trying to charge you extra, so I'm a bit unsure about getting it done. When my air-con is turned on, it comes out cool, not cold. I remember in the past one of my cars blew out icy cold air when it was turned on, even the handbrake felt cold - is that how it is supposed to be? Thank you.

Nope, they just take the hit. The "labour" does only consist of them popping the bonnet and connecting a pipe to your aircon system though.

    Just a remainder for everyone:
    • Not suitable for electric or hybrid vehicles

Useless money making con by ATS.
I was told: machine not working, then machine was magically working, gas only required a 100g top up (but gave me a receipt for a VW transporter which I suspect was the previous vehicle to be done, mine was a Vauxhall Zafira), then told me that he had no time to do an anti bac treatment (unless I waited until after lunch) which he said was only a can sprayed inside and gave me a can for me to do it at home instead.
Absolutely no change to air con effectiveness, which is why I took it in as it wasn't great, so I suspect he never got the machine working and I got no gas top up but a receipt from previous vechicle..
  13. Codify's avatar
This is a "con" all right. Tried this last time, the garage said there was a hole and so they couldn't refill. Just lies. Groupon refused to refund cash so just ended up with useless "Groupon bucks" vouchers that there is nothing decent to spend on
    ashyt16turbo's avatar
Why is it a con? It's all automated, the machine does a leak test, if it fails then the refill doesn't proceed.
Why would they do half of the procedure?
The actual garage doesn't benefit either way.
  14. Dave_S's avatar
Would never use Groupon, rip off merchants and non existent customer service
  15. anthony69's avatar
I've heard or read somewhere that an Aircon unit in a car should be used all the time to keep them healthy, and they should never need refilling. Just like a domestic fridge they should need no maintenance?. Any fiddling or refilling like this can just cause more problems than it solves? (edited)
    slybunda's avatar
9 times out of 10 ac issue is due to taking a stone to the condenser.
  16. ashyt16turbo's avatar
Of all the minority here blaming this and that on ATS, I wonder how many customers have had this done and are fully satisfied like me.
    Sackboy1's avatar
Did you notice any difference when you had it done?

I feel like recharging the aircon in your car would be like recharging the refrigerant in your fridge freezer and I don’t know anyone who does that?!

If aircon doesn’t work in a car its either a leak that’ll need fixing before regassing or another issue?
  17. pinkmonkey's avatar
Halfords do a free aircon check, £50 to refill but if you sign up to their free motoring club, you get £10 off this.
Has made such a difference to Daughters car, my Son took his in, but unfortunately, it had a leak so they couldn't do his.

When you do pop back in time, would you mind picking one up for me as well, I’ll give you £30 for it to make it worth your while
  19. deleted248415's avatar
Got this 3 weeks ago as last month it was tough for the kids in motorway traffic in mid afternoon last month. Now it's no issues driving in the heat thanks to the cheap regas

Took advantage of this deal and had mine done at ATS Morley. No problems at all. Done in just over an hour. Great service.

Avoid took my honda accord in today, they said the compressor had gone and unable to fill gas... the bonnet didn't even look like it had been open... I'm going to get the ac checked out but seems they haven't even checked the car

Seems odd though given that you’ve booked and paid in good faith - why would they not want to do the job and give an excuse ?

Doesn’t make much sense unless they were super busy maybe or they’ve made a mistake perhaps.

That said makes you wonder how they make money - Groupon take a whopping 50% cut per booking so effectively they are doing it for less then £20 which is crazy cheap.

    Anyway hope you get sorted.

Had mine done last week, just in time for this increase in heat. ATS Derby did a great job.
  24. ashyt16turbo's avatar
Had mine done a few months ago, still working fine now.
  25. hj111's avatar
I used this also. It’s worth calling up the garage you use to check they have the gas in. As lots of garages didn’t have the newer gas.
  26. secsteel's avatar
Do they empty and refill or just top up

I had this deal on my 14 year old Citroen last year. Worked fine. Aircon still going reasonably strong this year too.

Mine lasted nearly 3yrs and just had it done again and glad I got it done as its very hot out there

..does anyone have recommendations/prices in general for anyone else other than ATS through Groupon?

No votes either way here. But Groupon are out to make money for nothing and if anyone's dealt with ATS/Kwik-Fit before.. I'm not having some salesman in a pair of overalls trying to upsell me on buying new things I don't need.. tyres, brake fluid, the brakes themselves..

Not as bad as the big co's that try to sell you fuel/engine treatment when you can literally put a full tank of premium fuel in that'll do the job for maybe 5 bucks
    deleted248415's avatar
As above comments it's between £80-100

I had it twice before in my small car
    Last around 2-3yrs on it

Took my e60 last year to my local ATS and they was good as gold. Aircon also working till this day. Will try and use this Groupon again on my Ford Focus.

I've used these guys, they were fantastic, would highly recommend. No hard sales at all

Where’s the profit, for this price. It’s either a shoddy job or up selling.
    meer-cha's avatar
My local garage done me an AC leak test, empty and refill for £20 last spring (edited)
  33. deleted48909's avatar
The aircon deal is great but they are shysters for other things. My OH took her car in and they told her that the week-old wipers were shot and that full brake fluid reservoir was low.

    meer-cha's avatar
Fun fact ATS didn't wanna do a 4 wheel align that I paid for via Blackcircles as an add-on to a tyre replacement, on my car due to "rear shocks being shot".
Took it to my local garage that inspected everything and each side with a ruler, everything perfect.
Then took it to another garage for a hunter 4 wheel align and they've done it in front of my eyes no problems...

Blackcircles refunded me the align money but goes to show ATS are just lazy sods

Had mine done last Friday, at Morpeth, the lads there did a great job, been going there for years, well done guys, very friendly service.
  35. nathanobrien58's avatar
This thread is interesting as they filled mine up and worked for 30 mins and then warm again.
  36. pow26's avatar
Do they do a service? Mines blowing hot air(Honda civic type R 2007). It’s possible that there’s a leak BUT i can’t hear the condenser kick in.

Edit. Cancel that. Anyone here from Hampshire? Hampshire GU11 that does good servicing? (edited)
    xxxChrisUKxxx's avatar
Air con relays are notorious on mk8 Civics. It's probably got the old omron relay. New one on eBay is around £15-20 for an improved Mitsuba one.
  37. DJ8's avatar
When Groupon take a large commission, you wonder how ATS make any money! Obviously means quality of service will be compromised
  38. david_robinson94's avatar
Crazy how the "new" gas is twice the price of the old version that did the same job just as efficiently. Originally we were told that R1234YF would come down as time wore on, yeah, right.
  39. bazza1827's avatar
Had my niece's done yesterday was working fine. Just popped to shops in it and the compressor not kicking in. Had my van done last yr best thing i ever had done.
