Amazon Echo Dot (2018) - Charcoal

What's new?

The 4th gen Amazon Echo Dot brings an updated look – rounded, sleek and compact – and is perfect for small spaces.

An updated processor means Alexa responds to your commands and questions quicker than before.

“Alexa, play music everywhere”

Stream music from services such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer and play them across all your compatible Echo speakers (sold separately) with multi-room music. It works with podcasts, radio stations and Audible too, so you won't miss a moment of your story while moving from room to room.

Here to help

Alexa makes it easy to organise your day and find the answers you want. You can set a timer, add to your shopping list, create a reminder, and ask questions. Stay updated with the latest news, weather and traffic.

You'll also have access to tens of thousands of Alexa skills, such as TV Guide or Fitbit. New to Alexa? It's incredibly simple to setup and get started with the Alexa app.

Control your smart home

Set routines and manage your compatible smart home devices. Switch off the lights at bedtime, turn the thermostat up when you're feeling a bit chilly, and change channels on your Fire TV.

Stay connected

You can make calls to almost anyone hands-free making it easier than ever to stay in touch with friends and family. Let the kids know dinner is ready by making an announcement to your other Echo speakers.

Is there much / any difference in features between the 4th and 5th gen echo dot?

    Thanks for posting BTW, ordered!

The 4th gen still has a 3.5mm audio jack at the back, for connecting a wired speaker or headphone, which they got rid of for later generations. This potentially makes it more appealing if you want to hook your Echo up to a hi-fi receiver or amplifier.
The 5th gen might have better built-in speaker, I'm not sure.

So depending on whether you want to just use your Echo as a stand alone speaker or connect it to a bigger better speaker system, you should choose accordingly.

If you have Eero routers (i.e. if you use Talktalk broadband) then these Echo Dots act as wifi extenders for your wifi mesh - it was enabled in the UK a couple of weeks ago.

Might just be me, but I found these Hue bulbs to be really dim and too warm a light temperature for my liking. (edited)

Great deal if only for the golf ball. These are great.
Although I've never had a hole in one. In fact they disintegrate every time I get the driver out.
Wonder what I'm doing wrong (edited)

This looks amazing value. Just ordered one. I really don't need the bulb though but I'll find a use for it.

I’ll happily take it off your hands if so

Great deal - I’ve just bought the echo dot with bayonet light bulb for 28.99 on prime day.  This type of fitting for the light bulb is no good to me but still a good deal

What are the bulbs like brightness wise? I have an old bulb I got from somewhere like poundstretcher and it’s not great!

if yes can u do this without having the hue bridge
     thanks

These are white bulbs (so have no colour), but I believe you can change the temperature (i.e. between warm white and cold white)

Is it worth just using it as a normal every day bulb ?

Will soon be mandatory to register a Philips account in order to turn your light bulbs on. Just an FYI if that sort of thing bothers you!

Is that right? I thought these were "made for Alexa" bulbs that no longer needed the Philips hub?
