The dedicated staff at HERD slowly nursed her back to health at the orphanage, where she was close to a herd of other orphans so that she could have emotional support during her time of recovery. When she was well enough to be introduced to the herd, she was accepted gracefully and unconditionally by her new family. The Amarula Trust, which was established in 2008, helps to safeguard Africa’s endangered elephants so that they can continue meet under Marula trees on the Savannah year after year.
