Lol, too expensive for LiFePO4. (edited)

Owned one of these. They are good for small duty tasks, running a laptop in the garden, stereo, portable fan or just a short term backup supply. For anything which draws a decent amount of power it wont last you very long.

It also has an annoying flaw which is if you plug it back in whilst it is under load (ie: you're powering something), it'll continue to run on battery and eventually just power off. The higher end models will begin charging when power is available. Whilst not a UPS, it does make them a lot more useful. For example, if you want to keep a fish tank running during a power outage.

This is best suited for the likes of camping or running a modest supply away from mains power.

Just started the process of sending my second Anker power station back to them. After 11 months it started losing its charge. First one lasted 3 months.

I've had a similar problem (the smaller model). The solar panel couldn't generate enough to charge it in winter, so I unplugged it. But when I plugged solar panel back in in spring, it got a little quirky, and flattened itself a couple of times. Was about to send it back, but it's suddenly settled itself down. Not sure what to do, now, as I think it's only a 1 year warranty and that hasn't got long to run. Get the impression the firmware could be a little buggy, and I don't know if you can update it.

One other irritation is the high watt USB-C switches from charging it, or charging your device, via unplugging then replugging, so if you have a slightly iffy USB-C connection, it can switch the wrong way without you noticing. I tried to charge my laptop with it, and ended up having the laptop charging it, instead, so I ended up with an even flatter laptop. A button switch with a dual coloured light to indicate what it's doing, would be better.

I'm looking for a portable solution to run a 400w smoke machine. How long would it run for with this?
    redcantona's avatar
    Around a hour.

Everyone is quick to diss these.

For taking a family camping a few times a year is this not a really helpful tool? What would others use instead that's as easy to grab and go?

Looking for genuine help as I am at the cusp of buying one of these.

I have this and it is great can charge multiple devices (phones and my camera batteries) but also saved our food as our electric hook up failed and it kept the cool box working until they sorted it.

to know how long 512wh would last here is example

Example 1 - portable fanIf you use a portable fan that uses 20 watts for 4 hours per day then the calculation is

    20W x 4 hours = 80 daily watt hours (Wh) consumption

Is this pure sine wave on the AC output? Anker website doesn't seem to say either way.
  8. Shanew55's avatar
Am I right in thinking that these hold approx 17p of electricity?
    redcantona's avatar
That's correct. I can get almost 2 full charges of my 250wh ebike battery which gives me almost 100 extra kilometres. Coupled with my solar charger it's perfect for when I go camping. (edited)

A car battery powers a mini fridge longer than this and costs £40. Am I missing something?
    A57ton's avatar
    Yes, you’re missing literally everything.

Yeah, I need this price with the solar panel please! 🤪
  11. Edward_Ford's avatar
Ideal for camping for powering radio, charging phones, cameras, running led lights etc and if connected to a decent PV panel will help people camp without hookup for longer without buying loads of batteries.

just pulled the trigger. part of what i do is a drone surveying business with 3 drones x multiple batteries and controllers to keep charged, plus laptop, tablet etc. this should keep me going without being reliant on a car engine for power.

What is a good power station? Majority seem to be glorified powerbanks... As in can't use heavy-wattage appliances.
    scotty6435's avatar
That depends what you want to do and for how long. Many can do 2000W or more but at that rate you're going to need a big capacity to last more than 15 minutes
  14. GeeBeeMTB's avatar
Tempted for my drones. If I've got multiple jobs in a day something like this would be great as it's not dependent on my truck engine running

Arhhh, I've just ordered one of these directly from Anker! Got it reduced to £409, with a free carry case (RRP £79.99). So not really a saving compared to Costco. And I'd much rather have Costco customer service and could probably live without the case.

It's not a bad price with a case mind you. I was consider that one too.

I keep looking at these and thinking that’s neat. Unfortunately I’ve got a serviceable 70ah 12v lead acid battery in the shed on trickle charge. With various gizmos it keeps us up and running during power cuts.
    rprp's avatar
You can't plug things into a 12V battery without an inverter, and it's also not suitable for repeated full charge to full drain situations. It's a different use case
  17. SnakeSpotter's avatar
Kinda tempting, as it has more capacity for your buck than my Anker 521. But, that also means more weight, and you still don't really get that much capacity for that.

And as stated with my other post, my Anker 521 seems to have it's bugs and quirks. (edited)
