    Has anyone used these things for more heavy-duty DIY purposes? I'm curious how well they'd hold up to a Stanley knife or whatever.

    They are good, I use one on my leatherwork workbench. I wouldn't suggest buying A1/a2 sizes,they usually send them slightly bent(or that's transporting issue) you won't be able to get it flat. Only thing be careful with heat it will deform it.
