There's not a lot Pro about 8GB of RAM. Trying running something like Unity or any other development tool with a professional-sized project on this and it just won't.

The Pro should ship with a minimum of 16GB of RAM imo. And if you're just using this to take notes and browse the web you'd be as well with the MacBook Air

If you are just browsing/note taking then you can get away with a cheap Windows laptop.

The fact that Apple sell something called "Pro" with a CPU this fast and only 8gb RAM & a small SSD is either idiotic or criminal. If it were this price with 16gb and a 1tb drive (both of which are cheap) or at least the ability to upgrade them, it would be a no brainer purchase.

A friend has one and I'm jealous, but not when I see he has to plug in an external SSD just so he can use it for the work he does.

8gb of shared system ram with zero opportunity for upgrades.

    no thanks (edited)

imo depend on your user case, i use it for uni, its great in taking notes, browsing internet, MS office etc simply due to its light weight and battery life. i can actually use it as a laptop and not bring a charger to plug in everywhere. there is no laptop better that the mac air if you actually plan to use it as laptop

but i agree its a joke to offer only 8gb256gb for £1000 laptop, macos sucks tho (edited)

900 for what is a three year old machine. A fool and his money are soon parted.

It is Apple so it's a given

Just a small warning, this SSD will fill very fast, the OS takes up 90gb alone. My pictures and music takes up a fair chunk. So doesn't leave my for anything else.

In terms of power and doing things, ITS A BEAST and so far easily can manage with music production and playing guitar.

however I'm finding mine eating through it's ram when doing light tasks like web browsing. I'm forever getting the banner - this page is taking your memory - then everything is slow stutters and lags.

This could be software related with safari but it's a daily notification now.

I suppose it depends how you look at it.

We've really reached that point of diminishing returns when it comes to Laptop performance, this 3 yr old machine probably performs similar to a lot of current machines. Hell i'm still running a 13" MBP from 2014 and it still runs great.

Can you open and turn on a Costco item like this or is it once opened that's it type deal? I know Apple you can open it and return it no issue just wondering what Costco is like with this.

Yes I ordered a laptop online and didn't like it so I drove to my nearest Costco and returned it. The return period is 90 days.
