Prunus Padus Bird Cherry, supplied as bare root hedge plants, are deciduous trees with long, broad, spreading branches. Clusters of small, pure white, showy blossoms bloom along the branches throughout spring creating a stunning display. Flowering makes way for dark, glossy berries which are too bitter tasting for people, but they are very popular among wildlife.

These garden plants are perfect as flowering hedge plants for larger gardens because they look particularly good when they are allowed to grow to their full size. This is an excellent tree not only for ornamental value, but for attracting birds and other wildlife to the garden!

I'm trying to get rid of lots of brambles, & hawthorn hedges that are mixed together!! They are a complete nightmare, and trimming them twice a year is too much for me. Are these okay for a replacement hedge? I see you have mentioned that they are a type of tree, if so, how tall do they grow please? My garden is around the 350ft + length mark. If these only grow to around 5ft, they would be perfect for replacement hedges. They look lovely, and would be much more pleasing on the eye. Luckily the hawthorn hedges are only on 1 side, so not too much to get rid of😳 (edited)

Hawthorn makes for great hedges. And bramble. You just don't want to get stabbed up by it. Hawthorn is the best wildlife tree in my garden and I have a ridiculous amount of trees. Including a bird cherry.

The bird cherry is a handsome tree when small. It puts on a show for about two weeks early in the year. But I can't say I have ever seen much wildlife action in it. Unless it is of the leaf munching variety. The trunk is handsome - like a laurel. Mine is happy in full sun. Though it sounds like it would like wet woodland fringe.

If you want an easy hedge and you have room, I'd go hazel or field maple. But I'd be more inclined to try and get the hawthorn hedge into a manageable state if it's already established.

    Brambles are brilliant for wildlife.

Many hedges need twice a year trimming. But I guess with hazel or something you could just chop it to the ground every three years once established. (edited)

This is pretty expensive for bare root hedge plants. See summary of an order I made from Hedge Nursery Ltd for comparison (other sizes available at not much extra..)
