Brewed and canned by: Czech Republic

added by

Description
Brewed using whole-cone, Saaz hops from Žatec, pristine water from an Ice Age aquifer, Moravian malting barley and our heritage lager yeast, this classic rich and full-flavoured lager sets the gold standard for Czech brewing across the world. The tradition of cold-conditioning in our brewery cellars for seven times longer than most other beers creates a pale lager with a sweet, deep golden body and an aromatic, hoppy foam. Bold in taste, yet refreshing and perfectly balanced.

Lovely beer, keep an eye out in Aldi, 12 x bottles for £9.99 if memory serves... It wasn't all stores though, had to pick mine up from Wolves. Try the Aldi Prarmo too, £1.59 a bottle - much better than what it's supposed to imitate... Good 2 day chill upright in a fridge and it's ready to go, along with 5 others... lol

WOW Funny, just bought this today.
This is proper Bud, not like that watered down american stuff that tastes like hose water.

2 for 10 in Asda as well now. Pilsner Urquell and this is all I'll buy from the supermarket when it comes to lager nowadays.

Stop buying brewed under license rubbish folks it really is bad! San Miguel British made is just terrible where the Spanish one is very good. Stella made in Wales is awful and not a patch on the 5.2% Belgian stuff.

They must see us Brits coming, drink anything. Clearly they're right, imagine sending any of this stuff over to them

Blame the tax duty on it. Literally no money to be made on imported lager when compared with the profits against domestically produced beer.

Used to buy this from Tesco or Asda two 4 £9 a while back lovely beer, did find the bottles tasted better but that could of been my taste buds. HEATED

About 30 years ago, the proper Czech Budvar had a very nice distinctive hoppy taste. Excellent and far better than the bland American clone.

Somewhere along the line, the taste of Budvar has been dumbed down, so it's nothing like it used to be.

Thankfully, the Czech Republic now has lots of craft breweries, so the best bars serve locally produced IPAs.

I beg to differ. I think it remains pretty much the same as the stuff I used to drink when I was in my teens. I don't think my palate has changed too much (although I now like the strong Belgian beers).

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I think Budvar from the brown bottles used to taste better, so perhaps that retained the 'hoppiness' a bit better than the green glass now used?

Pilsner Urquel was always the much hoppier Czech beer but I still prefer Budvar. (edited)
