”Blending high-end audiophile quality with plug-and-play wireless versatility.” ’BBC Music magazine’ – ‘Best in Test’.

Blends sound and function like nothing else in its class
Exquisitely engineered, the real beauty of the Cambridge Audio Alva ST is how well it blends sound and functionality. Unlike many of its rivals, set-up is drama free and speed control is via electronic control (no need to manually change the belt). A built-in phonostage and Bluetooth output offer universal connectivity, letting you enjoy the top quality sound from any hi-fi, speaker system or even Bluetooth headphones.

Switchable, high quality Bluetooth aptX HD output
The top quality Bluetooth aptX HD output is a standout feature with the Alva ST. Bluetooth connectivity usually means a loss in sound quality but, thanks to the Alva ST’s aptX HD output, wireless sound is much higher quality. Working up to 24 bit/48kHz, the Alva ST delivers Hi-Res audio to beat CD – cable-free. For improved sound when not using the Bluetooth output, it’s switchable – reducing possible interference when using a cabled connection.

Built-in, switchable phonostage
For a fully analogue experience, little beats a cabled connection. The Alva ST features a switchable, built-in phonostage, so it connects to any hi-fi system with an AUX input. RCA phono outputs let you use any phono cable, allowing you to use longer or higher quality cables of your choice. If you already have a high quality phonostage, simply switch the output level at the rear.

Highly engineered tonearm
Rigid and low resonance, the Alva ST’s tonearm is every bit as thoughtfully engineered as the rest of the turntable. It features a detachable headshell, making it much easier to remove the cartridge – ideal for when you’re cleaning the deck and don’t want to risk damaging the stylus or for when upgrading to a new cartridge. With adjustable anti-skating, the rigid tonearm cleanly follows the record’s groove, giving you clear and lifelike sound.

Fitted with a legendary cartridge
Supplied fitted with the legendary Audio Technica AT-VM95E cartridge, the Alva ST is ready to play, straight out of the box. Detailed, musical and engaging, the cartridge makes listening to music fun. As part of the VM95 family, it’s easy to upgrade the stylus as and when funds allow. Simply slide out the old and slot in the new for an instant upgrade in sound (with optional VM95EN, VM95MK or VM95SH styli).

Easy to set-up and practical
With the cartridge already in place, it’s easy to get started with the Alva ST. Simply dial up the correct weight and anti-skating and you’re good to go. Once installed, a practical lid and push-button speed control make the Alva ST easy to live with.

Stylish good looks
Sleek, clean lines and a reassuring solidness means the Alva ST exudes a sense of quality. Finished in Cambridge’s signature lunar-grey and matte black, the Alva ST’s smooth style perfectly matches other Cambridge Audio products.

Do justice to your precious record collection, with the talented Cambridge Audio Alva ST.

great price heat added. Classy little turntable. I would personally use only the phono stage and connect to an amp and speakers.
Being an annoying audio snob I'd never stream music via Bluetooth let alone play vinyl over bluetooth

aptX HD Bluetooth should help and the reviews said not a noticeable difference but same here. He wanted the option as easier to transport to and from university. Just seemed like a decent option for him

Interesting find. It's probably been over 3 decades since I last read a hifi mag but I've never heard of Fluance. They don't seem to get much of a mention in the UK.

I got one of these. Maybe a good compromise if moving to and fro at University?

that has a better cartridge by far, I like the styling of the Cambridge one but that will sound better

It seems a bit strange to use a turntable to listen to digitised music! You get the pops and crackles of vinyl together with the compression of digital when using Bluetooth (edited)

you got all the digital keyboards, digital guitar pedals, drum machines, digital delay, echo, compression, autotune and other effects on voice and instruments, ran through a digital desk, recorded and mixed digitally and mastered and pressed onto vinyl, played through a digital mixer by the dj through a digital preamp with digital EQ etc and into a digital power amp and into the analogue ears. there's so much digital involvment in music from the past 40+ years, both in recordings and in live performance and most people don't notice or realise. to some it's all that analogue and digital distortions that gives the "warm" sound some people say they like. ie rolled off high end to cover hissing and stuff and muddy bottom end and rolled off bass and loads of mid range as cheap systems can't provide good bass or treble

I know very little about turntables but would love to put together a nice sounding system to play some records that I was recently gifted. Would this need an amp and some quality speakers or is an amp not required if I'd just pair a table like this with some bookshelf speakers and not a big 5.1/7.1 system etc?
I normally listen to all my music on Spotify on my PC and would like to continue to play the majority of music from Spotify but with the option of getting my very favourite albums on vinyl for the added quality. Therefore would like a system where playing or streaming Spotify to the speakers would be an option as an upgrade over my computer speakers, which aren't anything special.
Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Hi…. Yes, it would also need an amp and speakers…. Vinyl is fun, but it won’t be better quality than a good quality digital streaming process…. If you fancy vinyl still (and why not?) pop into somewhere like Richer Sounds and they’d be able to both educate you and sell you some nice reasonably priced kit
