Man I loved the first two but even at £35 I just can't... would probably be like £19.99 before I cave in.

Picked this up last week. Loving it. This is a really nice edition with a few nice collectables I wasn’t expecting. Great price 🏻

I love 1, couldn't get into two. How does 3 compare?

3 in design takes inspiration from the original: a much slower pace / longer time to eliminate enemy units; move back to 'battlegroups' with a tech tree of choices to improve your capability, rather than the 'commanders' of Coh2 (where there was no choice once you picked one). 3 also has 'tactical pause' where you can queue up actions for your units while paused, allowing those who like a slower pace not to be overwhelmed.

From a single player perspective, it's not a linear 'story' like Coh1. There's a dynamic turn-based strategic map of Italy, with you and the enemy moving pieces around and ending up in tactical battles. There are the main set-piece, scripted battles that are part of the story, and then a whole load of (quite repetitive) skirmishes.

The main criticisms with the game are that many of the features / quality of life aspects in Coh2 are gone (everyone who designed Coh1 / 2 have left Relic) and so for many regular players it's a case of banging heads on the wall saying, "you put this in your game 8 years ago and now we have to fight to have it put in again." Also there's still a strong sense that the game is unfinished (e.g., many of the unit thumbnails are missing, grainy copies from coh2, or simply the wrong pictures used), and from a multiplayer perspective, a lack of content (2 maps for the most popular mode, with nothing at all new 5 months after release). Relic are still supporting the game, but they just laid off a huge number of people so there are worries about continuing support.

I think it plays well and is stable, though. The problem if you plan to go beyond single player and play multiplayer is that the content just hasn't been there, so the community fell away.

Have they fixed the unbalanced sides? Germans were incredible overpowered on initial release even after a couple patches. Made it unplayable really...
