On call: Staying connected with up-to-date applications has never been easier thanks to Connected Modern Standby. Now your device stays ready, even when asleep, so you can quickly access files and applications whenever needed for an instant-on experience.

Code Easter5 can bring it down to 377

Thanks for that, knocks another £6.50 off the price if used instead of the blue light code. Unfortunately it doesn't stack with the BL for me. I have sent an online price match request to Dell support asking them to honour the Easter 5 code, rather than the BL code I used last night for my £384 order, which isn't due to arrive until Monday. Not overly hopeful tbh, as I told them I was ready to cancel & re-order, but just after sending the request, I refreshed the page & it's not now showing as out of stock on their website.
I have read of numerous horror stories regarding Dell CS on some of these threads, but I'm just crossing my fingers now that someone reads my online request in time for them to action it. If I get any reply I'll post it on here. (edited)

Looks like a simple install also...

    Non upgradeable RAM.
    Dell.
No thanks (my current laptop is a Dell and it'll be the last I buy from them!)
    markyo007's avatar
You are incorrect. The RAM can definitely be upgraded on this, I have this laptop and it’s running 16GB in dual channel mode!!
  4. Pagemaster's avatar
Admittedly this is pretty niche - but Dell are notorious for DPC latency, if you are thinking of using this for any audio recording/processing/DAW then IMHO look elsewhere.
    josh971's avatar
Funny you should say that. The dell XPS range we have at work are the most commonly complained about, and it's always audio issues. Wonder if it's related.
  5. komi's avatar
Looks good, does anyone know if the RAM can be upgraded?
  6. tawse57's avatar
Can this be stacked with blue light? I don't have blue light, just wondering if other codes stack?

Works with student - comes down to £384.04
  7. Mohamed_Sayed-Ahmed's avatar
£384.04 for me with an additional 4% through work. Also getting cashback from santander. Bargain! Heat added. Thanks OP (edited)

Why are all the rams 8GB on the latest laptops these days?

    Built-in obsolescence?

Shame about 250 nits being the maximum screen brightness. I have looked at lots of 300 nits laptops in Currys and they look pretty bleak. 250 nits maxium brightness seems awfully dark.
    plewis00's avatar
The lighting in high street stores is always extremely bright, that's why the OLED TVs always burn-in so easily. In a normally lit room, 300 or even 250 nits is fine. (edited)

Is this any good for crypto investments and beginner trading?
    deleted2679383's avatar
Always good to have a baseline understanding of technology before dumping your savings into a tech based, highly volatile digital asset.
  11. Palwan's avatar
Can I power it with USB-C or has to be that Power Jack (Port 4).
    Schizophonic's avatar
According to the specs, yes on Port 7. However with USB-C you need to make sure your wall plug can deliver the right amount of power and that not ALL wall plugs are the same.

    Cons:
    8 ram
    Dell diabolical Cust service
    Dell endless bugs
    Average screen
    Average brightness

    Pros, decent processor (edited)
  13. UnbearableBob's avatar
Thanks OP, ordered. Delivery on Monday. Got it for £384.04 with 4% blue light Inspiron discount. Also went through TCB for 4.4% cashback but don't think that will pay out because of the number of codes already used. Heat added 🔥 (edited)

Personally I'd prefer the 5625u offered in the 5425 14" Inspiron model...
Fewer cores but better single core performance and efficiency

That's been previously available for a very similar price (edited)

What is the colour accuracy? 45% NTSC? 100% sRGB? Can't find anything about the display. I can get it for £384 but I'm not sure about the screen.
    Bravura's avatar
    There's a full review here notebookcheck.net/Del…tml

Only immediate difference is the CPU is different but this appears to be the one so everything else should be the same.

How many nits! Backlight keyboard! Soldered ram?! 266hz screen? What's the viewing angle like from Peru? Does it accurately show pantone colours, does it have 6 duplex cross threaded threads? Every single deal.

    Only inches matter
  17. stesavingexpert's avatar
Ken, squeeze another 8gb ram out of them on the base specs and I am in

    *update.
After contacting Dell CS, they've agreed to refund £10 back onto my card. Bringing the total price down to £374.04, happy with that. (edited)

    Is this good for gaming?

    Yes, on low settings.

Would this be worth biting if I can get it for £370?
    Ega_Hacass's avatar
That would be ok price. To answer your question look at the spec and decide if it does all you need.

Would this work well as a general home use laptop for kids and Mrs doing mainly browsing and word/excel/PowerPoint type school and other work? Particularly keen to avoid a poor performing processor. Needs to be responsive.

    Yes

Can you power it via USB-C port (with appropriate charger probably PD)?
  25. RickSanchez's avatar
How does this compare to a Dell XPS from 2017/18?
    The_narrow_path's avatar
It doesn't (especially if you can stretch it to 2018/19). Except for the processor, everything is better on a 4-5 year old XPS. The Inspiron is budget friendly so all materials are cheap and you can't really expect much at this price point (when new obviously). But the XPS is top of the line so all materials used are premium. Even 5 years old XPS parts are better quality than nowadays budget ones. Because they don't tend to cut corners on XPS (unless they wanna make them extra slim, so they removed I/O ports of some XPS lines). Just make sure you get an XPS with at least an 8th gen quad core Intel inside. And check the battery cycles (or buy a new battery).

Better value than a Thinkpad T480 imo. If it was 16:10, I would be all over this.

I hope they have improved the body rigidity on the Inspirons, I had a previous gen Ryzen version and you could click the track pad from underneath the chassis it was that flimsy.
  31. kwl147's avatar
This could be going for free, and I’ll still say nope, with it being Dell.

Shoddy build quality, corners cut galore, crap customer service, how is this a deal aside from the CPU? (edited)
    bargainhunter666's avatar
