About this deal

Nice price, just £13 each way from EMA, seems to be the cheapest it's been this year! Usual hand luggage fare rules apply.

Sixty kilometres of beach on one small island: that’s what Gran Canaria is made of.
It’s also rather like a continent in miniature, with its volcanic landscapes, sweeping pine forests and Macaronesian flora. There’s even a desert in the south. A sunshine (and people)-filled island, it’s the third largest in the Canary Islands group, but houses a whopping 50% of the population. This is no doubt thanks to vibrant Las Palmas, the island’s capital, that draws residents and visitors alike with its combination of city life and Gran Canaria’s glorious climate – declared the “best in the world” by climatologist Thomas Whitmore in 1996.

Hope it helps someone

If you want to put a take on bag in the overhead locker it works out as £308.94 for a couple for a return journey. Not quite the bargain it seems.

The activist movement against tourism in the Canaries is a bit weird.

Thousands of protesters have taken part in demonstrations against mass tourism in Spain's Canary Islands.

Similar in a way to Cornwall, Devon, Scotland and Wales where the very means of the local economies seem to want to demolish themselves.

The problem is that the cost of housing in tourist areas doesn't replicate the salaries earned in the area.

The house prices are now replicating the wealth of the individuals buying or renting the properties. It's all disjointed. Without affordable housing for the locals to work in the area, it will only lead to more expensive holidays.

Using homes as holiday lets benefits nobody except the taxman. A balance needs to be found that keeps it functional as they both depend on each other.

I am off there in May. Ended up going for BA given that they include bags which made it significantly cheaper than either EasyJet or RyanAir. I’m such a working class lad, feel proper posh travelling BA!
