This is super useful if you have one of the newer Sony flagship headphones/earphones that only support LDAC as it lets you connect it to a Windows machine. I think it might have a decent DAC inside if you're using wired headphones with it.

I've been tracking the price of this for a year or so and it's rarely lower than £90 (and that's when an offer is on).

If you're on Windows you can also try this alternative Bluetooth driver which supports LDAC.

Oh nice! Looks like it just came out of beta as well.

Just a point of note, it's not just Sony headphones that support LDAC - Sony developed the codec but it's open source, so you'll find it in some releases from Soundcore, Soundpeats, OnePlus, etc.

I've got one of these. It is nice (small but with a nice metallic heft to it) and has quite a few functions which you can set with a phone app. I imagine it is a pretty good DAC but I haven''t tested it (phono out so not suitable as a headphone amp), and having a physical volume control is always a plus. I have to say that on my Sony XM4s I decided that the convenience of having 2 devices paired (which isn't possible when you use LDAC) was worth more to me than any sound quality increase (which I wasn't convinced I could hear on the sort of music I listen to).

Sony brought out a device that ONLY supports LDAC? That seems both unlikely and indeed rather foolish, if it's the case? (edited)

It supports LDAC and AAC as the high quality codecs but I think it'll do SBC as well ... the problem is SBC is a mess and nobody has it default to the high quality version so you're stuck with LDAC unless you use a Mac (supposedly AAC is available in W11 though).
