Not only is it US accounts only, you have to have owned a game from them prior to the event starting to even start the free chain

Thanks OP. Change region to Us under profile in Nintendo. Use VPN to change to US server. Boom game downloaded. But on the flip side I have never played their Xmas giveaways I downloaded.

This made me wonder how creating and using a US account for the Switch works. Simple, difficult or at all possible?

Then I realised that this is Nintendo

Free games are always good, but with only five games in the chain and me already owning the second (but not the first) - as well as the majority of their other Switch games - they're not getting me to spend money on Pandemic Shooter when I'd never play it.

Did this a couple of Xmas’s ago if memory serves me right, changed our UK account settings to USA without a problem (be careful if you have any credit) then changed back afterwards. Only problem was that one of the games was above my lads age restriction so couldn’t claim it so broke the chain so to speak.

Like above, you do have to have a US account and you do already have had to have downloaded one of their games before.

Damn, didn't know about the offer until after the first one has expired. Already got the second apparently from a previous giveaway though. It didn't seem to get much publicity this time, only article I found was published only a few hours before this deal. Not that it overly matters, not like there are any AAA games in there, but a couple of their last free ones held some enjoyment still.
