If it does everything you want, save your cash from buying something more expensive.

Great watch. Personally I feel like it could've been a better watch for the price. I picked one from stock must go and was so looking forward to it. I'm not a fitness junkie (I just monitor steps and water intake), and maybe for those that are active it might be handy but there's no Garmin pay, which for me is top of the list of what I need a watch for. Glad I paid £30 refurbished and would definitely not pay that amount. But it's still a great post and will heat it regardless.

It's a 3 year old bottom of the range model, it's all just about managing expectations really. Garmins are very expensive watches in general and tbh I never really understood the Venu range as its a bit of a half way house between smartwatches and sports watches and its not great at being either.

If you are looking more for a smartwatch than a fitness tracker then I would recommend getting a Galaxy Watch 4 at this price. It comes packed with loads more smart features (like Google Pay and Samsung Pay in your case).

For those that reallt care about accurate fitness tracking, Venu is not really the range to go for.

Video on Amazon listing shows Venu SQ2, perhaps the photos are also of the 2?

I use the music version of this and it’s great. Mine was used from CEX and about £70 about 18 months ago. GPS tracking is really good, it locks on in less than a minute and the track it provides is very accurate. Tracks marathon distance with no probs at all. I only run or cycle a couple of times a week, so this gets most use as a music player in the gym. Using either Amazon Music or Spotify I pair it to my Bluetooth earphones and I have access to my music with needing to take my phone to the gym. I charge it every few days. Heart rate and sleep tracking may not awesome, but they never seem too far off to me and I wouldn’t think many watches are great for that. I also have a Forerunner GPS watch with heart rate monitor strap, but since getting this I no longer use it. Syncing to Garmin Connect is really quick straight forward and Garmin Connect in turn syncs to Strava in the background so that’s perfect. It does push phone notifications, email headers and WhatsApp to the screen also. I’d give 9/10 of using as a watch for tracking your activity and as a music player.
As a smartwatch, it doesn’t really compare to an Apple Watch, but I don’t think it’s supposed to.

One thing I never understood, why does the Venu SQ lack features than the round Venu has (like altimeter)? Why forcing the round shape if you want some premium features?

This was a very basic watch when it came out three years ago (please don't confuse with the Venu which has much greater functionality and an amoled screen). There are so many better Garmins than this now, including the Forerunner 55, which is frequently available at this price, or even lower.
