BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU

Newspeak, Doublethink, Big Brother, the Thought Police - the language of 1984 has passed into the English language as a symbol of the horrors of totalitarianism. George Orwell's story of Winston Smith's fight against the all-pervading Party has become a classic, not the least because of its intellectual coherence. First published in 1949, it retains as much relevance today as it had then.

We don't need to read it, we are living it.

So correct..! The TV’s listening to us, the 5 minutes of hate is LBC’s James o’brian, war is peace and peace is war.. seeing this with certain countries at the moment.. and the blind compliance of the population.. the propaganda is so good the people are begging to wear masks or be locked down.. 'so relevant for today's society',
    'essential reading for *insert year*',
    'not fiction, it's reality'

    etc etc

It's frustrating how privileged some people are to not realize how good they generally have it in 'the west'. There's problems of course, always will be, but you have no idea how much worse it could actually be, and to try and make out our current situation to be literally comparable with the situation in 1984 is more than gross hyperbole, it's outright extreme delusion. I have just read this for the first time recently, and it is a work of genius. Essential reading.

One of the greatest books of all time. The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism is perfect and nails it. Of course the film was not about the future it was supposed to be called 1948 but that wasn't allowed and George had to change it. The book was about the world as Orwell saw it at the time.
    Perfect book

Completed in 1948. Orwell simply reversed the digits. Nothing to do with not being allowed.

1984 was all neon socks, deely boppers and wham for me. Not accurate, zero stars.

The thing with Huxley, Orwell and H.G Wells. I don't think they necessarily thought everything in their books was a bad idea.

Don’t matter. It can be interpreted as a warning regardless.
