It's because the products George sells have varying rates of VAT.

School uniform for one is 5% or none at all.

Electricals etc will have the normal 20% rate.

EDIT - it's actually kids shoes and clothing that is VAT free and not school uniform.

Same principle applies though in that VAT will not be 20% on every item George sells. (edited)

"It takes up to 4 months from your purchase date to confirm that you have complied to T&Cs in order to be eligible to receive a Gift Card."

    Er, I'll pass.

Has anyone used Metro for offers like this before, have they always paid out the reward with no issues?

Once, and it didn’t track because I used a voucher which was later validated and they paid out within the time frame as promised.

It’s worth doing if you were planning on spending anyway.

So they expect the average Jo to work out the VAT or is this click bait. (I know OP has given us final amount)

It's clickbait! Lol. They are saying that if you spend £48 in store, you get the £20 voucher. The VAT is irrelevant to the customer. For Asda, depending on what you buy, their net sales might only be £40.

We aren't sure items other than clothes will work now...

The "asda George" usually means clothes. It didn't say "asda" or "asda groceries".
Better to contact the company to clarify before needless purchasing

Very confusing post, not OPs fault. Looks like the vouchers are for spending on George items only but I can't see what you need to spend the original money on to get it If it's grocery spending, it's a no brainer HOT deal. If you have to spend on George items first I'll give it a miss. Does anyone know what the original purchases have to be?

Placed an order for £92 on Friday [ so well over the qualifying amount] and not yet received an email to verify the purchase.
Has anyone had a verification email yet?

    Heated, but regret it now.

Once you go through the Metro Site you get different products and prices to what are offered on the normal Asda/George site.
Not seen a single instance where this difference is to the customer's benefit.

Might spend some time working out if there is enough of interest on this "Metro Site" to want to make an order.

Bait & Switch. Any time i've tried to use the app in-store there are problems with their site too.

I emailed them and got reply
    Dear customer,

    Thank you for contacting us.

Your registration has been confirmed and see you have received your first confirmation email from us. However, a second validation email has not been sent as your transaction was not found in our system.

We highly advise you to consult the FAQ page on DailyMail/Metro for more information about the different stages of your reward.

Here are some reasons to why your transaction may not have been tracked :
You did not complete your purchase after registering
You did not click on "Get Reward" on the registration email to complete the transaction
You clicked out of the retailer website or onto another cashback add-on before completing the transaction
Cookies were disabled on your browser
    Your Adblocker was turned on
Another cashback offer or discount was applied (registering to a retailer's newsletter is also considered as using a discount)
You may have used another email address at any point during the transaction
Same **** last year with Matalan, (edited)
