Very easy to just make your own which tastes like your local takeaway

    Ingredients for the sauce

2 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok

    1 onion

    ½ red & ½ a green pepper, cut into 1 inch cubes

2 cloves of garlic, finely sliced

    ½ tsp minced ginger

    100ml tomato ketchup

    1.5 tbsp malt vinegar

1.5 tbsp dark brown muscovado sugar

200g can of pineapple chunks in juice

Method Heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan until very hot.

Add the oil to a large frying pan/skillet, heat it up on a medium-to-high heat and add in the onions. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring every now and then, until the onions start to go translucent.

Add the peppers and cook for a further minute.

Add in the garlic and ginger and cook for another minute. Add the tomato ketchup, vinegar, dark brown sugar, and the tinned pineapple (including the juice and stir. Bring to the boil, and then turn down the heat and let it bubble (stirring every so often until slightly thickened.

Jars of water just look at ingredients

Check the reviews, doesn't appear to be a 'great' sauce but I would guess if on a tight budget may suite someone.

Tesco own brand. Their stuff isn’t the most flavoursome but it’ll do the job.

All the Hearty Food sauces are pretty poor. When you look at the ingredients and see that water is the first on the list, it gives you a pretty good idea of what you are going to get.

Personally, I would pay a bit extra and get the Tesco main brand sauces which are also in the 3 for 2 promotion.

Better still, make your own if you have the time and ability.

Pretty much, every sauce, unless a concentrate, will have water as the first ingredient

    Still, this stuff is awful
